Product Description \N
Amazon.com The Daredevil soundtrack provided a nice boost for this previously unknown quartet from Little Rock, Arkansas. Evanescence's songs "My Immortal" and the imposing "Bring Me to Life" are clear standouts in the film, mainly because they work so well with the dramatic, eerie undertones of the storyline. They reappear here on the band's debut, alongside a selection of similarly brooding tracks that evoke pensive artists like Tori Amos and the Cranberries. Vocalist Amy Lee has the kind of voice that can cause weeks of insomnia, but on songs like "Tourniquet" and "Haunted" she belies the music's sinister mood with evenhanded spirituality, thoughtfully letting some light shine through the tempest. --Aidin Vaziri

Beautiful Voice, Haunting Lyrics November 13, 2008 This is an amazing CD and my favorite band. Amy Lee (the lead singer) has a hauntingly beautiful voice. Her voice is like an angel but it fits witht the alternative rock style that this band is. The songs on this CD can be a little dark but I think most people will enjoy the songs and appreciate the lyrics. Every song on this CD is amazing, which is why I think the entire CD is worth the buy. You will not be disapointed. One similar artist is Flyleaf so if you have heard them and liked their music then you will definitely enjoy Evanescence.

Evanescence: Fallen September 19, 2008 I first listened to this disc years ago. I have always liked the sound of this music and her voice. It is a great disc in my opinion. I cant really explain it completely but I just like this music. Thats all I have to say.

*that* voice July 31, 2008 3 out of 3 found this review helpful
It's interesting that many of the criticism of this album come down to "This band isn't REAL metal" ...for REAL metal search out Pantera/Slayer/Cradle of Filth (insert name of band with screaming male lead). Okay, if what you like is bands with a screaming male lead, you *probably* won't like Evanescence, I'll give you that. Other criticisms? "They aren't *real* goth, for *real* goth check out Nightwish, Lacuna Coil, Within Temptation, etc." like it's a competition to be *more gothic* or something (and FYI I love Within Temptation and Lacuna Coil, Nightwish is okay, I like a few songs). Other criticisms include "Evanescence sucks live" when I doubt anyone who hates the band obviously this much would shell out $70 to see them live (I've seen them live, and they were amazing). Anyways, Amy Lee is extremely talented (check out youtube videos of her singing a duet in high school if you think her voice is machine generated, or "Listen to the Rain" a song she wrote for her high school choir if you don't believe she can write songs). She has *that* voice - the one that gives you chills and makes the hair on the back of your neck stand up. The only person that comes to mind easily whose also had *that voice* was Karen Carpenter (although gotta say no one in popular music can ever equal the late KC). I will accept this: a lot of their songs sound the same. Yeah, and maybe the lyrics aren't super-deep, but c'mon they're songs. 95% of popular songs say things like "baby, I love you, oh baby" (I have heard a few songwriters who do have deep or clever lyrics, such as Dar Williams or Amanda Palmer of The Dresden Dolls, but those songwriters are VERY few and far between). Plus, some of the material on this album - such as "My Immortal" she wrote when she was only about 18 - pretty talented for an 18 year old!! Personally, this is one of my all-time favorite CDs. I bought this when it first came out, and I still listen to it very often. Basically, it can be described in one word: beautiful.
