Editorial Reviews:

Album Description
Put a nickel in the jukebox, assuming you can locate a jukebox, and that you remember what a nickel is. Sandra Boynton is back with another hit collection of children's songs! Blue Moo: 17 Jukebox Hits from Way Back Never recreates the fabulous jukebox era with a stack of tunes written by Boynton and her songwriting partner, Michael Ford, and sung by some of the biggest names in music. Here's legendary Beach Boy Brian Wilson singing lead and 10-part harmonies on "Speed Turtle." The incomparable Neil Sedaka crooning "Your Nose." B.B. King brings you a wistful "One Shoe Blues," Gerry and the Pacemakers offer "Mersey Lullaby," and John Ondrasik of Five For Fighting delivers the "Big Band Sound." And then there's the hit single from Boynton's Your Personal Penguin sung by the impossibly cute Davy Jones of The Monkees. I mean jeepers, even Sha Na Na is here. So roll over, Beethoven - and Leiber and Stoller. Boynton & Ford once again bring great words, great music, and great performers to children and vintage children alike.

This is a great CD to listen to while traveling or just spending time with the kids. It is clever and entertaining.

5 out of 5 stars The sounds of an era, recaptured, in a slightly silly way...   December 5, 2008
This almost-flawless collection has become the surprise hit of the year with our 3.5-year-old. I guess I shouldn't have been surprised, as other Boynton albums, like Rhinoceros Tap, have also become instant classics with our other children.

Almost all the songs are hummable from the very first listen and many will bring a smile to your face over and over (for me, it's the Uninvited Loud Precision Band - "the best intruding band in all the land").

It's also a delight hearing the still-powerful stylings of some of the well-known singers of the 50s and 60s (even though I was too young to hear them the first time around). Brian Wilson's "Speed Turtle" is an instant classic that you won't be able to get out of your head.

I continue to be perplexed by the inclusion of "Big Band Sound" featuring a monotonous delivery by Five For Fighting's John Ondrasik (maybe I'm culturally out of it, but I had never heard of them, or him, before this album).

However, this album flows so beautifully that I can forgive this one hiccup (and my daughter seems, oddly, to like the song). If you like the album or want to know more about it, there's a cute 10-minute "making of" video on YouTube if you search for Boynton, that will not only give you more insight into the process behind a book/album like this but also show clips of the singers actually belting out their tunes.

Kudos to Boynton and Ford for realizing kids need real music, too. And on the side, a helping of deliciously droll Boynton cows, rabbits, hippos, penguins and other critters.

Highly recommended!
