Great Band...but FLAT vocals, Boring DVD December 28, 2004 6 out of 11 found this review helpful
BTE is a shining beacon of hope for music today. They are consumate musicians and music writers. I have seen them live many times, and it safe to say that this DVD DOES NOT CAPTURE this band at it's best at all!!! Perhaps the very presence of cameras added an unnatural element to the show. Kevin always tends to be flat vocally live, and this is highlighted in the DVD!! The songs are vocally challenging in the first place and it's obvious that studio production gives him a "hand". A live recording, unfortunately, does not lie !!! It would have been better to have used mics spread out over the hall instead of tapping into the mixing board!!! Thats usually how you save flat singers. Perhaps he could not hear himself or the tonality of the band very well. In any case, it was not a good night for Kevin. (Bill Withers would not have been impressed of the "Use Me" rendition) The other dissapointing aspect of this video was it's "blahness": music was no different than listening to their CD. There was little improv, no jamming, just BLAH. This band has one of the best drummers and bass players around!!!!! The DVD certainly didn't show this!!! You certainly will not capture new listeners with this DVD. Overall, I was dissapointed and aggrevated frankly. I have this strange sensation that the band isn't too happy with this production either

Review: I know the last reviewer. He doesn't know what he is talking about. HE IS DEAF. Not tone deaf. Deaf as a doorknob. I think he must have licked the CD or something. I've seen him do this before, you know. In fact he licked and took a bite out of my copy of "Friction, Baby." Surprisingly, the CD still worked with a mouth-sized chunk missing. Those boys in BTE sure know how to turn out a good product. Like their t-shirts. My black t-shirt from the Deluxe tour never shrunk. It could have by now though since my girlfriend swiped it in our messy break up two years ago. I sure miss that T-shirt. I don't miss her that much. She had some really annoying habits. Like not putting the cap back on the toothpaste.
But BTE, doesn't annoy me. They rock my white booty. See them. Hear them. Love them. Buy them.
Can someone buy me a new "Friction, Baby"? And a grande burrito. I am unemployed right now.

I recently saw BTE in Austin at La Zona Rosa. Kevin Griffin and company are so much fun to see and the music translates perfectly live... While the CD can not replace the experience of seeing this great band live, the CD will tide you over until you can go out to see them in person again. Truly an underrated band, with more staying power than alot of their mid to late-90's contemporaries.
Never a disappointment! February 21, 2005 3 out of 3 found this review helpful
I have been waiting for Ezra to release a live album, and I'm thrilled. I purchased the DVD and the CD and both are worth every penny. While no recording can entirely capture the "live show" experience this is a noble effort. I would recommend it to anyone Ezralites and newbies alike.
