1 out of 5 stars This doesn't even qualify as music   June 3, 2005

Seriously - it doesn't. The singer's voice is weak and whiny, and the acoustic instruments kill what little music and melody there is left. Amy Lee's voice is beautiful and powerful, and her music is ROCK, made for eletric guitars. I mean, Going Under was a total disaster. The singer's weak vocals and the acoustic music completely destroy the powerful, angry feel of the original. And the musical arrangements and edditing is awful. There is basically no emotion left in any of the songs. DO NOT BUY THIS CD.

5 out of 5 stars Excellent tribute to an excellent band!   August 3, 2004

I was a bit hesitant when I first saw this cd. I thought it might sound good acoustic, but how would the vocals sound? When I saw that Switchblade Symphony was involved, I bought it instantly. For those of you who don't know who Switchblade Symphony is, they are a goth band consisting of two female vocalists and a male programmer who have made two beautifully melodic goth albums(that I know of). The acoustic guitar and percussion sounds really good mixed with the vocals of these two girls. There is not one song on that cd that I don't like. I listen to it now more than the original disk. Amy Lee has a great voice, no doubt, but it's so nice to hear her haunting tunes done acoustically with softer vocals. I'm so glad I bought it. I hope this review helps, this is the first review I have ever written.

1 out of 5 stars Keebler Elves Tribute?   November 23, 2004

Tribute, eh? (term used cautiously) I hope Evanescence is flattered by the sentiment because they can't possibly be impressed by the project itself. I have no intention of being cruel, but the vocals honestly sound like some sort of celtic elf or something. And was it recorded in someone's garage? My personal fave song by Evanescence, "Hello" is just slaughtered by the vocalist. Most of the vocals are pitchy at best and most definitely "whiney". I kinda dig the prominent percussion (bongo/beatnic-feel) but otherwise this project is really just barely listenable. Great songs done very badly.

3 out of 5 stars Confusing   December 4, 2004

I'm really confused. This was released quite some time ago...it's anonymous. The vocalist doesn't have a BAD voice, but she's clearly no Amy. I'm really wondering why she's sitting around copying another singer when she should be making her own album...? I'd understand a tribute with songs by all different artists, but this is the same girl on all the tracks...how is it a tribute CD??!! I reccommend instead the orchestra clasical tribute to Evanescence...I do wish this anonymous girl luck though; with her own ORIGINAL material.

1 out of 5 stars What the...?   February 9, 2005

When I first stumbled on this CD, I was extremely impressed that some people out there had the sense of mind to make an Evanescence tribute album. Upon listening to it, however, I was sorely disappointed and implore true Evanesence fans to pass this album by.

Never have I heard such a bastardization of Evanescence songs, including half-drunken siblings performing karaoke versions of My Immortal. The lead singer may be bearable in her own right, yet when compared to Amy Lee sounds whining and off-key. And the concept of a tribute album is admirable, but this artist sounds as though she is trying to break into the music industry by ruining other peoples' songs.

All the songs have lost their haunting beauty, replaced by sub-par instrumental (and I still cannot determine as to why the CD constitutes as a 'gothic' tribute, more on that in a moment) which is an insult to the original songs.

The song I noticed this in most was Imaginary. The original versions of Imaginary have a soulful melody, accompanied by Amy Lee's emotive singing. This so-called 'gothic' tribute transforms a once beautiful song into a dry tango, I kid you not, what with wooden drums destroying what little melody the singer left.

I am sure that Evanesence appreciate the sentiment of a tribute album. Yet I would be horrified if they enjoyed the portrayal of their songs in this light. Please, if you are an Evanescence fan, pass this album by. I can guarantee that you won't be disappointed on missing out on it.
