SPLENDID - ELECTRIC VIOLIN September 18, 1998 9 out of 13 found this review helpful
This is an excellent CD. The entire CD has such emotion. I really love "I Wanna Talk To You" and "First Impression". Regina Carter is a Violinist to keep your eye out for. SUCH TALENT.
Great work Regina!! July 18, 1998 6 out of 11 found this review helpful
I am a Regina fan from her Detroit Straight Ahead and Lyman Woodard days. She really has progressed in her talent and beauty and we want her back on tour or to stay in Detroit.
It's good, but ... July 10, 2004 5 out of 5 found this review helpful
I like this CD, but some cuts (e.g., I Wanna Talk to You) sound to me more like urban pop than jazz--very good urban pop, but UP nonetheless. Regina Carter is extremely talented, and I hope she will move toward the jazz side of things--like the cuts I've heard from the RC/Kenny Barron CD Freefall.
Brilliant! May 27, 2005 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
This CD swings, it rocks and it is technically brilliant. From the first track," I wann talk to you," to the last note of "Don't explain," this CD is utterly satisfying to listen. Regina Carter not only employs her fiery violin but also a whole slew of back up instruments like the african drum djembe on track #5. She seems to have an acute awareness of what is great music, what is beautiful jazz and she is so so so talented. It is easy to like the first track and the more familiar like Chaka Khan's "Ain't Nobody." (ever thought I would hear this song covered in violin- excellent!) But the slower, more pensive numbers like "When I hear Your Name" appeals to one's romantic leanings. And it also gives one a chance to appreciate the quiteness of her violin. Well, enough said, Regina Carter is a pleasure to listen to.
Whatever Regina plays I listen to! March 9, 2007 What an amazing jazz violinst...get all of her recordings is you love to love what you are hearing!
