Good thing, then, that Amy Lee is a fantastic singer who doesn't need studio polish, so the live tracks carry the interest. Whether two live tracks and an "instrumental version" (seems like a karaoke tool -- good luck hitting Lee's vocal range, though) is worth the price of this single is your call, but I was able to find this single for under seven dollars. At this price, I'd say the live tracks are worth it. "Taking over Me" is Lee at her most quavery; her pitch is off, but it adds a more human, vulnerable dimension to her usually pristine singing. I wonder if her voice is fatigued from all the touring? I like this approach, though; it adds a touch of the ragged to Evanescence, much in the way Emmylou Harris' slightly cracked voice on Wrecking Ball actually enriched her voice. The world-music-influenced vocalizations on "Whisper" sound good and fit Lee's voice very well.

It should be interesting to see how this band fares without chief songwriting partner Ben Moody on its next record. Lee has proven her worth again and again; the next phase will be crucial, to see if she can lead this band alone.


Evanescence Doesn't Fool With The Music   September 13, 2004

"Everybody's Fool" is the forth single from Evanescence's album "Fallen". This is one single that proves that they deserved their five 2003 Grammy nominations (including Album of the Year), winning two: Best New Artist and Best Hard Rock Performance ("Bring Me To Life"). Rarely does a hardcore rock band write and perform such creative themes, combining hard rock and celtic music. And rarely does a hardcore rock lead singer sing with tremendous vocal talent. Evanescence continue to amaze listeners after every single release.

"Everybody's Fool" is no exception. Their signature sound remains edgy, yet beautiful. Amy Lee writes and performs her words beautifully, blending well with the background theme. The poetry gives this song the distinct passion that no other performer has touched. The sensative and the hardcore sides express themselves amazingly while few other artists have accomplished this highly difficult task. Therefore, the songwriting aspect is unbelievable, especially combining a strong guitar and a choir.

The other three tracks give listeners a different aspect of Evanescence: the instrumental version and live versions of "Taking Over Me" and "Whisper". The performances from Cologne proves that the talents are real while adding a new prospective to the songs that album listeners have never heard. The instrumental version of "Everybody's Fool" also creates enjoyable listening.

The "Everybody's Fool" single is great for any fan of Evanescence. This set is sure to please any listener. Those wanting more Evanescence musical perspective should also buy their album "Fallen", which offers ageless enjoyment.

Evanescence's dynamic and ethereal yet hard metal rock sound make them truly unique. When coupled with Amy Lee's heavenly vocals, Evanescence is really worth listening to again and again.

Everybody's Fool, the 4th single from Fallen, depicts a young girl's admiration for a glamour pop star whose hollow existance only leads others to follow blindly in the path of lies. The hard hitting lyrics make this track so special.

The two live tracks included are a welcome look into how naturally talented the group is.

The instrumental b-side of Everybody's Fool is nice because it shows that, even without amy lee's vocals, it's still amazing music.

Forget Everybody's Fool, buy this for the live tracks. I think their Cologne show had to have been one of their best performances, I have loved every song from it. (They really should put the live version of Breathe No More on a single)....anyway.....the live recording of Whisper is FANTASTIC!! Taking Over Me is good but man....Whisper....

This is an okay single-it would be LOTS better if it had the video for Everybody's Fool on it. The Live tracks are great, Amy's amazing live.
