A Nice Sampling Of Modern Christian Rock July 17, 2006 5 out of 5 found this review helpful
I cut my teeth on Christian rock bands such as Pray For Rain (PFR), Petra, Dogs of Peace, Newsboys, DC Talk, and Geoff Moore And The Distance. Lighter fare that I also listened to was Steven Curtis Chapman, Michael W. Smith, Brent Bourgeois, 4HIM, and Margaret Becker. Along the way I've listened to plenty of other groups over the years, both secular and Christian. I've always leaned toward the harder sounding groups, and this compilation, "X 2006" introduced me to a number of groups, some of which have been around for awhile, who represent some of the best of modern Christian rock.
It's been awhile since I seriously listened to Contemporary Christian sounds. I have gravitated, as I normally do, back to it and I felt that this disc would be a nice sampler to try out. I was correct. Bands such as Kutless, Thousand Foot Crutch, and Day of Fire sound great on this album. It's also nice to hear Toby Mac (of DC Talk fame). My personal favorite song on this album is "I So Hate Consequences" by Relient K. Long-timers and reliable Third Day make an appearance with "Falling To Pieces."
Though there are a couple of weak links here, the majority of this album is solid, Christian nu-metal and emo. I really dislike secular emo, but it works in the Christian rock genre for me.
Fans of heavier bands like Saliva, Tool, and Velvet Revolver are sure to enjoy this album. Fans of lighter bands such as Good Charlotte and Bowling For Soup will also find something here for them. If you enjoyed the soundtracks to movies such as "Daredevil" and "The Punisher" as of late, this will be right up your alley. In fact, this album would sound great as a soundtrack to both of those films.
Good DVD.... May 16, 2006 3 out of 4 found this review helpful
It's as simple as the that. The dvd contains videos from todays greatest christian rock bands. From disciple and underoath to pillar and kutless. Out of the 15 videos in there around 12 to 13 are awsome, making this a dvd worth buying.
Excellent compilation CD! June 22, 2006 3 out of 3 found this review helpful
Wow has Christian music come along way! I'm really impressed with the quality of music that Christian artists have put out in the last 5 years. The X series has not disappointed! There are some really good tunes on this one. The stand outs are ..Track 13. One Thousand Apologies - Demon Hunter Amazing song!!... Track 17 The Wait Is Over - Disciple awesome!! I have listened to alot of christian music lately,I mean alot!! These two bands are simply amazing! There is no reason these songs should'nt get heavy rotation on the radio. Anyway another great X cd !!
Keeping the Trend Going November 4, 2006 2 out of 3 found this review helpful
Tooth and Nail and its associate labels continue to make great leaps in the quality and variety of acts they are signing. The X series of CDs and DVDs could be considered those labels' greatest hits from the last recording year, with a few dips into earlier seasons. Most of the tracks on this DVD are more Christian inspired rock than outright praise and worship; but there are some real gems of His wisdom throughout. Some of the tracks are making headway on the secular scene like Thousand Foot Krutch's "Move" that was used on ESPN. Overall a tight effort. If you are already into Christian rock/hard-rock/hip-hop/metal, this is a must-add to your collection. If you want a good sample of where Christian rock is going these days, this will give you a chance to find bands that suit your taste. In short, this DVD rocks. Buy it.
