Product Description "Out of the Darkness (Retrospective: 1994-1999)" features re-recorded, re-mastered horror music instrumental classics from Midnight Syndicate's "Midnight Syndicate," "Born of the Night," and "Realm of Shadows" CDs as well as four rare, previously unreleased tracks. Before the Haverghasts, before the haunted asylum and the Crypts of the Foresaken, there was Arcacia, a ruined village by the sea with a dark past and a sinister link to an ancient tower hidden away among the cliffs of the Northern Jarls. Containing close to 70 minutes of music, "Out of the Darkness" features both the band's and the fans' favorite songs from their first three CDs re-recorded, re-mastered, and sounding better than ever. Looking at it as an opportunity to breathe new life into the material, Midnight Syndicate attempted to maintain as much of the sound and character of the original versions while still making minor changes to the arrangements and performances to bring them closer to what they originally envisioned. The disc also features previously unreleased material including selections from two of Edward Douglas' early horror films ("The Dead Matter" and "Journey Into Dementia"). An updated take on the early signature tracks that helped launch Midnight Syndicate, "Out of the Darkness" invites listeners to return to the haunted village of Arcacia where it all began.

HAUNTING! September 16, 2006 8 out of 14 found this review helpful
I AM NOT MUCH OF A FAN OF GOTHIC TYPE MUSIC BUT I WAS LOOKING FOR A CD FOR MY HALLOWEEN PARTY. ALL THE [...] HALLOWEEN CD'S THAT I HAVE ARE SO CHEESY. HOW LONG CAN YOU LISTEN TO DOORS CREAKING AND PEOPLE SCREAMING? I WANTED SOMETHING THAT SOUNDED LIKE MUSIC. BOY DID I GET IT WITH THIS CD. THE MUSIC IS HAUNTING AND BEAUTIFUL,EXCITING AND STRANGELY CALMING. IT GIVES YOU THE FEELING YOU GET BEFORE A THUNDERSTORM. THE PIPE ORGAN IN THIS CD IS FABULOUS. I WILL LISTEN TO THIS CD LONG AFTER HALLOWEEN IS OVER.
Perfect for Halloween!!!! October 10, 2006 8 out of 13 found this review helpful
I have been a fan of Midnight Syndicate for only a very short period of time. I first heard the music last Halloween at a friend's party. She had The 13th Hour and I was blown away by the music - it was so different from any other Halloween music. When looking for music for my own Halloween party this year, I found the Out of the Darkness CD.
Out of the Darkness is perfect for any Halloween get together. I play it together with The 13th Hour and have over 2 hours of what I think is the best Halloween music - perfect for setting the mood for fall and trick-or-treating. My kids even ask to put the CD in so that they can turn off all of the lights and play "Find the ghost." They especially like track 5 - "Legions of the Night."
My favorite tracks on the CD are "Born of the Night" (the piano in this song is absolutely phenomenal), "Solemn Reflections" (this song has such a haunting feel to it), "Theme to "The Dead Matter" - Vampire's Kiss" (I just really love the piano in this song), and "Darkfolk - "Shadows"" (This song is a perfect combination of anticipation and fear.)
But, "Haunted Nursery" is my favorite song on the CD. The mood of this song is so creepy that it makes me shudder. You can almost see the nursery - an old 1900's crib in a very still room with dust and cobwebs everywhere, the windows covered in sheer curtains, so still and quiet, the mobile just barely moving, the walls almost gray with isolation, and a feeling that no one has entered the room in a very, very long time.
This is Halloween January 14, 2007 8 out of 11 found this review helpful
I grew up with Halloween albums filled with screeching cats, laughing witches, rattling chains and howling wind. Those were great, but if you're hosting a haunted house or are looking to set a darker mood, this is the best Halloween music out there.
Sophisticated, varied and truly dark, Midnight Syndicate has the corner on the market as far as I'm concerned. I've had people ask me what music was playing and how where they could find it. If you're a Halloween afficianado or are simply looking for a gothic sound, I can't recommend Midnight Syndicate highly enough.
A Great Reflection of Midnight Syndicate's Beginnings July 26, 2006 6 out of 12 found this review helpful
If you don't have the first three CDs by Midnight Syndicate, now is your chance to finally hear some of the best tracks from these albums along with a few new treats. If you already own them, then you obviously know how great those CDs are. This new release is a great look back at their earlier work; some songs completely re-recorded, others remastered. I highly recommend this CD to any fan of gothic horror music, whether you are already a fan of Midnight Syndicate or just discovering their music for the first time.
Great CD October 5, 2006 5 out of 10 found this review helpful
I really enjoyed this CD. I am new to Midnight Syndicate and it was great to be able to hear a mix of their "cream of the crop" from their early years. It definitelly makes me want to hear more. It is creative, inspiring, relaxing and mysterious all rolled into one.
