Muppet Holiday Greatness Missing Henson October 25, 2006 23 out of 24 found this review helpful
Let me start by saying that this CD is great. The music is decently crafted, well presented and, in some parts, quite funny. Sadly, some of the beloved Muppets do not sound like themselves, which causes confusion at times as to who is supposed to be singing. Puppetry is inherently visual, and without images to go along with the songs, it was difficult to imagine some lines being sung by a specific Muppet. Specifically, Rowlf the dog and Dr. Teeth (of the Electric Mayhem) sound like impersonations of Jim Henson's loveable characters and not the characters themselves. Though, it is great to see Disney's version of the Muppets embracing classic characters such as Rowlf and Teeth by giving them each time on this album (I hope this continues). However, moving past necessary voice-actor changes for characters, the album itself is quite enjoyable. "Red and Green Christmas" with Piggy and Kermit, though simple, may be one of the cutest new Christmas songs I know. Zat You Sanni Claus? by the Electric Mayhem is memorable and really likeable, as well. And, even though the entire project is post-Henson Muppets, it fits quite well with the canon of Muppet Holiday albums (Denver and Muppets Christmas, Rocky Mountain Holiday, etc). If you enjoy good Christmas music and the innocent silliness of early Muppets, you will enjoy this CD.
Not What I Hoped For November 7, 2006 21 out of 28 found this review helpful
I was very excited to hear that this new Muppets Holiday offering was coming! The previous two Christmas albums ("A Christmas Together" w/ John Denver & "A Muppet Christmas Carol") have long been family favorites at hour house in December. However, this time I am disappointed.
Most of the songs performed on this cd include voices not done by the original puppeteers that made them famous. I realize it is impossible to perfectly duplicate the voices to match the puppeteers that are no longer with us. But, to focus on these voices so much (Kermit, Rowlf, Dr. Teeth, Statler & Waldorf, The Swedish Chef) in this album, only produces a disappointing reminder that the "Muppets" we grew up with are long gone.
Maybe I am being a little hard on this cd. But, there are plenty of Muppets they could have focused on for this project that are still performed in the original voices (Robin, Sam, Honeydew & Beaker, Rizzo, Louzeland, etc). Those voices added to those of Ganzo, Miss Piggy and Fozzie would have made for a more familiar feel.
There are a couple of good cuts on the album. One is "Merry Christmas" by Pepe. The other is "Santa Baby" by Miss Piggy.
Sadly, over all I can not recommend this cd.
A great addition to any muppet collection December 26, 2006 5 out of 5 found this review helpful
I wanted to add my two cents in here because I feel that this CD is fantastic and is being judged rather unfairly. I found the new songs innovative and entertaining, some just down right hilarious. I also believe that the song "Red and Green Christmas" is adorable and fits in perfect with the classic repertoire of Muppet music. In regards to the voices, I think people are being rather harsh. Of course Dr. Teeth and Rowlf are going to sound the same. Even when performed by Jim Henson it was difficult to distinguish the two without visuals. Kermit is played by Steve Whitmire who has been playing Kermit since Henson's death and has done a fantastic job. I didn't hear people complaining after Muppet Treasure Island or A Muppet Christmas Carol. Also, many people are commenting on how glad they were that piggy has remained true to the original. I would like to point out that Frank Oz's name is not on the CD and was performed by Eric Jacobson, not Mr. Oz himself proving that second gen performers aren't as bad as most people make them out to be. It would be ridiculous to criticize this funny, heartwarming, and entertaining CD simply because they don't have the same voices from 25 years ago. I believe the humor and music is truer to the original Muppet show than most Muppet undertakings within the last 10 years, and I applaud both Disney and the Muppets on a job well done.
Great music but don't call it "The Muppets" December 19, 2006 3 out of 7 found this review helpful
If you're thinking of buying this album for the music - I highly recommend it. The music is enjoyable. There are some great versions of old classics as well as some brand new songs that are just as enjoyable.
If you're thinking of buying this album due to nostalgia for the Muppets - don't. With a few exceptions, these are NOT the Muppets!! I agree with Joseph Morrow - it would have been much better to simply have focused on characters that they had the voices for then to try and fool us into thinking this is the Muppets we all know and love. I feel very let down!

My kids have really been getting into the Muppets, and this cd allowed them to hear selections from the Muppet Christmas Carol and a Muppet TV special we found on dvd.
