5 out of 5 stars A great package for a great song   February 16, 2007

Lithium (written by Amy Lee) is the second single from The Open Door, and it's a wonderful song. Lee is able to take sadness and portray it beautifully in her work, and at the same time put a positive spin on it. Despite its melancholoy tone, Lithium has a happy ending. This disc also has a track cut from The Open Door entitled The Last Song I'm Wasting On You (also written by Amy Lee). The title refers to Ben Moody, ex-guitarist of Evanescence and the man who founded the band with Lee. His departure from the band was on less than ideal terms, to put it mildly, and this song reminds me very much of My Immortal - but I personally think it is better. It's a truly heartbreaking piece of work. The third track on the CD is a live acoustic performance of All That I'm Living For (written by Amy Lee and John LeCompt), which is very hard rock on The Open Door. Here it is piano-heavy and laced with strings. The transition from one form of music to another is seamless and the song is no less powerful or amazing because of it. Finally, the disc offers a live acoustic performance of Lithium in video form (it must be played on a computer). A transformation similar to the one of All That I'm Living For occurs here, yielding equally impressive results.

Though the serious Evanescence fan already owns the track "Lithium" (having purchased it along with the rest of "The Open Door" album), this single still manages to offer some worthwhile stuff for the especially devoted Evhead:

First and foremost, "The Last Song That I'm Wasting On You," a piece previously unavailable to those of us who were unable to pre-order "The Open Door" from iTunes, dedicated to former band-member Ben Moody, is the saddest, most poignant thing Amy Lee has churned out since "My Immortal." Next, a live-acoustic version of "All That I'm Living For," formerly a hard-rocking song now artfully rearranged with Amy Lee on her baby-grande, John LeCompt on acoustic guitar and a guest-celloist to round things out, proves haunting and well-rendered; the ability of the band to retoole what was a rock-and-roll tour-de-force into an elegant, eerie soft piece is a tribute to their musical chops-- You will definitely want to listen to this one on repeat. Finally, a music video of Amy Lee performing "Lithium" acoustic/ live, which disappoints only because it should have been included as an audio track, a la "All That I'm Living For," as well. Of course, the single does include the original album version of "Lithium," too, a song I'd place amongst the best Evanescence works to date.

Overall, for the price listed, the "Lithium" single is well-worth your purchase, offering an ecclectic mix of both live and studio tracks that will prove greatly pleasing to those who love Evanescence.

5 out of 5 stars Lithium   February 15, 2007

Beautiful is the only way to describe this single which includes a B-Side and some live tracks. "Lithium" is my favorite song from "The Open Door" and I'm really glad it's being released as a single. Track 2 is a B-Side that Amy Lee wrote as a "joke". Except that it turned out to be one of the most raw, beautiful and heartbreaking songs you'll ever hear. The pain in her voice will make you tear up and it's worth picking this single up for this song alone. The acoustic version of "All That I'm Living For" is perfect and better than the hard rocking album version. It's slowed down with a piano and cello, which gives it a more melancholy feel. Track 4 is a enhanced video track of "Lithium" live acoustic.
My only complaint is that it would've been better as a audio track rather than a video since I want it on cd.
Get this cd now!

I expected that these would be fullscreen video similar to what came with the concert DVD of Fallen. This video quality is worse then whats available on most web sites.

5 out of 5 stars get this or you are officially retarded.   June 8, 2007
If you love Evanescence and really appreciate their music then this is for you. I got this so cheap and for new and its amazing. I honestly think the best song Amy Lee has ever written/recorded is on this CD and I'm very surprised it wasn't on the Open Door. It's The Last Song Im Wasting On You. It's just Amy and the piano and its beautiful. All That I'm Living For acoustic live is on here as well which is a major plus! I saw her do this on aol sessions and fell in love with the acoustic performance. You can go watch it yourself to see if you like it.

The only disappointment I had with this was that they didn't give an audio only version of lithium acoustic. They provided a video, which is great, but I would have much rather loved to have the audio version instead. I dont know... I could have played it while driving or something. It's just one of those things.

But get this CD not for lithium, but for The Last Song Im Wasting on You and you won't be disappointed.
