I was there!!! December 25, 2006 3 out of 3 found this review helpful
I was at this October 21st concert...and it was AMAZING. From the opening with "Two's Company" to the ending with three songs from "Side Show." The highlights include Emily's "No One is Alone," the story about the wardrobe mix-up for "Side Show" and Emily singing "Poor Unfortunate Souls" from "The Little Mermaid." However, the true gem on this album is Alice's "You Have to Be There" from the new show "Kristina." It brought down the house and I can't wait to see the show...if only for that song. Her rendition of Tom Kitt's "I Miss the Mountains" is both sad and uplifting, too. Plus, Tom played piano on the song and he is just a genius. This is an album really for those who love the women. Incredible.
WOW!! TOGETHER AGAIN!! December 28, 2006 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
This album is a must have!! These 2 leading ladies of broadway have done it again. Something magical happens when these two get together. You can see why they beacme the stars that they are. Alice's rendition of "Broadway Baby" will knock your socks off, as well as her heart rendering version of "You Have To Be There". Emily Skinner holds her own with the hilarious Mae West "Come Up and See Me Sometime", and here "bleeping" amazing version of "Poor Unfortunate Soul". I'm Sold! You won't be dissapointed! Scout's Honor!
Two Amazing Talents February 8, 2007 I've been a fan of Alice Ripley and Emily Skinner ever since I saw them make Broadway history in the musical "Side Show." Their voices are absolute power, grace, control, technique, and passion. What a treat to have this special one-night only performance on a 2-CD album. Their musical talent is matched by a generous sense of humor and their appreciation for the audience and their fans really comes through. A new treasure in my collection!
I WISH I HAD BEEN THERE! February 22, 2007 As the other reviews of this CD have said, there is an undeniable magic that happens when these two ladies step onstage together and sing.
Ever since "Side Show" I have been an uber-fan of these two, and while they are superb in individual projects, together they sparkle. The song choice on this album is a good mix of styles. And the pre-song, post-song banter between the two may be scripted but it comes across natural and spontaneous, like we are eavesdropping backstage in the dressing room.
P.S. How could Emily not be cast as Ursula in the new "Little Mermaid"? After hearing her version of "Poor Unfortunate Souls" I cannot see anyone (let alone Sheri Rene Scott - RANDOM!) as Ursula.
Good Disc February 24, 2007 Some great performances by these two ladies throughout this two-disc set. Ultimately a few numbers are disappointing only because Alice Ripley sings just slightly flat...especially near the end of the concert. Thanks to Bruce Kimmel for this live disc though...it is a rare treat, mostly.
