5 out of 5 stars 50% of Floyd is 100% great!   September 19, 2007

Another reviewer mentioned that having Echoes here was worth the price of the DVD alone. I would agree, and add that having Wots..Uh the Deal also makes this worth the bucks. Too many of these songs he has done before ad infinitum (do we really need another take on Coming Back to Life or High Hopes??), but having this great track from my favorite Floyd album "Obscured By Clouds", is just great! Since that album is probably their least known (and certainly most underrated, in my book), it may serve to convince people to go back and see where this beautiful song came from. Other than that, great picture and sound, and a ton of extras (not to mention what must be 3 1/2 hours of music), makes this one a must-have! And I only paid $11.99!!!

1 out of 5 stars Oh No!!! Another rehash of David Samson singing Roger's songs (good) and Polly Ono's songs (bad)   June 20, 2007

Is this DVD really necessary? I mean, how long ago was it that David Samson released "David Geekmour in Concert"?? Maybe 40 pounds ago? Not long enough.

What is the point here? To watch this guy warble out Roger Waters' songs when the artist himself, Waters, is available, makes NO sense. Its like American Idol except heavier...and he doesnt move.

Only new thing here are those terrific songs from On An Island which were so great that nobody can listen to them without falling asleep. In fact, that horrible album is so bad that they had to start putting warning labels on the album cover stating "caution. Will cause drowsiness. Do not listen while operating a motor vehicle or heavy machinery".

In his entire lifetime, this guy has not written a single song by himself that wasnt worse than what your average 15 year kid with a single guitar lesson under his belt could do. Never has somebody so devoid of inspiration lived so well off of another artist's inspiration.

Almost as bad as Broken China by Rick Wright or Fictitious Sports by Nick Mason (thankfully, these albums are out of print). After Syd departed, Pink Floyd was left with one very talented guy and 3 Ringo's....2 of which are shockingly ungrateful Ringos. The least Rick Wright and David Samson could do is send Roger a note saying "thanks for making us rich...sorry we didnt help much with those great albums you wrote like Dark Side, Animals, and The Wall". But instead, like many other welfare queens, they resent the hand that continues to feed them.

5 out of 5 stars Two Words...   September 20, 2007

...AbsolutelyPositively Stunning!

Try not to sit there in complete awe as Gilmour and his band (and a few guests) flawlessly execute the entire ON AN ISLAND album, as well as a goodly portion of PF material that will have you scratching your head and saying to yourself...Hmmm...Waters / Gilmour...Gilmour / Waters...

I was a bit skeptical of this offering initially, and having seen Roger Waters and HIS band back in June, I was prepared to accept Gilmour's show as "another" in their little back and forth.

But I realize, and happily, that there's more than enough room for the two of them, and you can never get enough great music, no matter who's interpreting it.

The full-length ECHOES alone is worth the cost of this package.

What does that tell ya?

And when rock royalty (Gilmour) invites Rock Royalty (David Bowie) in to participate...you feel a bit privileged just to be a part of the action.

A stunning package and a must-have for any David Gilmour or PF fan.

One thing that does puzzle me tho' is this...why does he virtually ignore the first two solo records...DAVID GILMOUR and ABOUT FACE?

I'd love to hear anything from either of those two albums.

BUT.........I ain't complaining...jessaskin'...

...is all.

Enjoy.

5 out of 5 stars Brad King's is really Roger Waters   August 8, 2007

I just had to chime in in defense of this DVD and offset the one star by Brad.

Roger is that really you penning under the name of Brad King? Brad if it is - I'm enjoying the fact that you display your ignorance for the world to see. Roger, left the band after the Final Cut album almost 2 decades ago. I imagine this to you is no different then when Syd left the band and the nay sayers wouldn't have anything to do with Floyd without "him". Gilmour had his hand in arranging most of the music the Floyd did, along with singing his fair share of songs, and any idiot knows that Rogers forte wasn't musical composition (just listen to his solo album Pros and Cons of Hitchhiking) but rather lyrics. Amazing how the Floyd and Gilmour's solo efforts have managed to stay in the forefront for the past 2 decades with out him.

As for your review based purely upon spite without even seeing the disk - well every village needs an idiot. Brad thanks for being ours.

5 out of 5 stars Gilmour Enjoying His Freedom   October 23, 2007

Literally worth five times the price and an equal in it's own way to PULSE, with intimacy and a freer feel offsetting the more minimal lighting (although enormously impressive in its own right.)

As the other reviewers have given an accurate overview I'll just mention one cut, that being "Comfortably Numb," which you and I know every second of by heart, it's in our blood.

This performance features David Bowie sharing lead vocals. Now the idea of anyone but Mr. Gilmour taking over vocals on this song is enough to make my hair catch on fire, but THIS WORKS. It actually becomes a Bowie song while remaining a Floyd epoch. It's thrilling, it's almost dreamlike to watch a singer of equal caliber and credibility to Mr. Gilmour share this song and to take it's inherent drama and mystery to another level entirely.

The DVD also points out what a superb disc "On An Island" is, sadly overlooked by too many Floyd fans for not being heavy enough (man.)

And it's in high def - you can almost reach out and shake Rick Wright's hand.

Extras are top flight, set is an incredible bargain and you'll have trouble turning it off and going to bed. Mr. Gilmour once again proves that he's in a class all by himself, a category of artist of which there is only one.
