This is a Good Moment, but Not a Great One October 25, 2007 12 out of 17 found this review helpful
Like any good Steven Curtis Chapman fan, I rushed out and bought this CD the day it came out. I'll be honest. After the first couple of spins, I was disappointed. But after a few more listens, I am appreciating it more.
Over the years, Steven has perfected the pop/rock mix, and this CD is no exception. From the anthems like "Miracle of the Moment" to the ultra pop of "Something Crazy," rocker "Children of God," and ballads "Cinderella" and "One Heartbeat at a Time," this CD sounds great. I've already found myself humming several of these songs while not listening to it.
The only problem I really have with the disc lies in the repetitious lyrics. It seems to be an epidemic here with quite a few songs having just one or two lines for the chorus. Or at least one or two lines that are repeated. If you pay attention to the choruses of "Broken," "Yours," "You are Being Loved," and "Children of God" you'll see what I mean. As much as I love some of those songs, I get real tired of the choruses quickly.
Which is a shame because there are some great messages in the songs. "Miracle of the Moment" reminds us that this is the only moment we can change. "Broken" talks about the much needed reminder that every person on earth is a "well dressed wreck." "Cinderella" is a touching ballad about father/daughter relationships I know will become a wedding favorite. Steven's son Caleb joins him for "Children of God," a great praise song. And "One Heartbeat at a Time" is a reminder to mothers of how important their job is.
This isn't a bad release by any stretch of the imagination. But I don't think it ranks up there with some of his truly excellent projects.
SCC Delivers Again: Live In This Moment Rocks! October 23, 2007 9 out of 9 found this review helpful
One might think that 20 years would wear a person down, exhaust their creativity, and diminish their resolve. Not so. In Live in this Moment, Steven Curtis Chapman is as infectiously energetic, artistically creative, and steady as ever. In fact, Live in this Moment breaks new ground and demonstrates the continuing cutting-edge development of a phenomenal artist who has chosen not to focus on himself but on the God who gives such gifts. You just can't put SCC in a box and you can't put in the past, he simply can't be denied.
It's the same SCC but different-new songs, new sounds, and fresh energy. I believe there to be more potential hits on this album than anything we've seen before from SCC. Miracle of the Moment, Cinderella, Yours, Something Crazy, Children of God, You are Being Loved, With One Voice are all potential chart-toppers. Cinderella is a great song and a potential cross-over hit though I don't think SCC cares whether it crosses over or not. It's a song for fathers and daughters and how the years pass so quickly. Definition of Me is certainly a new sound and a thoughtful song based on the selfless concept that my worth is bound up in God. Something Crazy and You Are Being Loved are as rockin' as ever and perhaps more so. Influence of the modern praise and worship music is manifest with the stirring anthems of Yours, Children of God, and With One Voice, all of which could easily be added to the repertoire of Passion Conferences.
More Doves to come? Song of the Year? Songwriter of the Year? Album of the Year? Which will it be? You know it will happen! This album is going to go Gold. I know I can easily be accused of going over the top here, and of using the superlative a little much, but remember we are talking about an artist who already has 51 Dove Awards and 5 Grammies. Just watch and see.
This is the 21st SCC Album and it just keeps getting better. If you've never tried SCC before this is as good of a place as any. And if you've never seen SCC on tour it's a must see.

Pray for the family. May 22, 2008 8 out of 9 found this review helpful
Please keep Steven Curtis Chapman and his family in your prayers. The song Cinderella is about his youngest daughter who went to be with Jesus yesterday. Cinderella, along with Miracle of the Moment, is one of my favorite songs on the CD. Again, please keep the family in your prayers.
SCC's new release rocks! October 23, 2007 7 out of 7 found this review helpful
I've been a Steven Curtis Chapman fan since 1988, and for those of you who have been through that many years of his music...from First Hand and More to the Life...to Great Adventure...to Declaration, you will NOT be disappointed by This Moment.
My favorites so far...You Are Being Loved...Something Crazy...Children of God...Yours...Cinderella...With One Voice. I'm the kind of person who buys songs one-by-one on iTunes, but every song on this disc is incredible and not to be missed.
I pre-ordered This Moment weeks ago, with a special deal allowing me to listen to it over the net until it came, but I'm sure that deal is over. So here's what you do. Buy it on Amazon...then go to iTunes and listen to the 30-second previews over and over until it arrives tomorrow. :)
(To top it off, my wife and I are headed to the This Moment concert in Roseville next week and will be sitting on the front row and meeting my favorite artist after the show! Not only that, but we're just weeks away from heading to South Korea to bring our son home, partly made possibly by a grant from Chapman's Shaohannah's Hope foundation!)
The Best CD of 2007 October 24, 2007 3 out of 3 found this review helpful
To be quick and to the point, Steven Curtis Chapman's "Miracle of the Moment" is hands down the best album of the year (probably the best in the last several years). Every song is masterfully crafted and woven into what becomes a powerful listening experience.
The musical flavors range from pop to ballads to pop rock. And there is something for people of all ages.
If I had to pick out my favorite songs, the fun anthem, "Children of God" and the encouraging, "You are Being Loved" would be at the top. But then so would "Definition of Me", "My Surrender" and the heart-warming, "Cinderella". It's hard to choose one. They are all that good.
This is one of those cd's that will make you want to sing out loud, in your car, at the traffic light. And you wont even care who sees you.
