Album Description
"Alexander and his singers triumphed with purity, focus, refinement, and artistry." -LOS ANGELES TIMES

"The Pacific Chorale is artistically exemplary, with a broad, interesting repertoire and the stylistic versatility to match." - CALIFORNIA ARTS COUNCIL

"Emerging from nowhere with a spot-on start, pristine harmonies, expansive open vowels, and a meditative, sometimes melancholic, sensibility." - ORANGE COUNTY REGISTER

A program of favorite Christmas music, performed by a 160-voice choir with instruments. Classic seasonal pieces are heard alongside all-time favorite carols. Includes well-known arrangements by such luminaries as John Rutter and David Willcocks, as well some lesser-known arrangements. Pacific Chorale, under director John Alexander, was the recipient of Chorus America's prestigious Margaret Hillis Achievement Award for Choral Excellence, named for founder and director laureate of the Chicago Symphony Chorus. The Pacific Chorale Guest is consistently sought after for performances with leading regional and visiting orchestras, including Orange County's Pacific Symphony, Los Angeles Philharmonic, Hollywood Bowl Orchestra, and Boston Pops. Pacific Chorale is one of America's best choirs. Internationally recognized for exceptional artistic expression, stimulating American-focused programming, and influential education programs, Pacific Chorale is a touchstone in its field. Under the inspired guidance of Artistic Director John Alexander, Pacific Chorale has infused an Old World art form with California's hallmark innovation and cultural independence.

5 out of 5 stars Exceptional Beauty   November 29, 2007

This is a lovely Christmas CD. I'm a fan of Shaw, Dale Warland, the Cambridge Singers and, after this disk, the Pacific Chorale. The choir has the lush "big choir" sound, with a great dynamic range and excellent precision. Many of the songs on this CD are a capella and the Chorale sings them with authority and beauty. The program is a nice combination of less well known Christmas music and old carols with interesting arrangements. I plan to buy other CDs from this group.
