Great Soundtrack! November 4, 2003 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I had the opportunity to see this video a few times, and afterwards, I knew that I had to have this soundtrack. It is just great and it mixes sounds of jazz, the blues, and Gospel all together. My most favorites are "If You See A Devil," "Feast On Me," and the quartet finale. This play starred 2 of America's most-beloved actresses, Esther Rolle and Mabel King, who have both been dead for several years. If you're fans of these 2 ladies, then this is definately a MUST HAVE!
Unbelievable! December 17, 2005 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
This is not a cheezy show tunes album. In fact, I wonder how a show was performed around this soundtrack. I heard this on vinyl recently and HAD to get it as a gift for my father. The vocalist on the first track "Your Tore Up the Clothes In the Closet of My Dreams" will blow your mind because you can really just feel it. Vocal tracks and jazz tunes are superbly combined for a listening experience that even someone who is not particularly enthusiastic about jazz can enjoy. Definately worth checking out. Not sure about the sound quality of the CD as I have yet to hear it. But just crank it, for the first track at least, and enjoy.
