I am glad that some of my new favorite songs are on the same CD. It was a good buy and I listen to it all the time.

3 out of 5 stars Is Anyone Even Buying These Anymore?   July 17, 2007

Now That's What I Call Music! Is back yet again with another CD of songs played heavily on radio and hit the most "buy now" buttons on iTunes, which of course defines them as hits. Or are they? Two questions come up when looking at the 25th edition's tracklist. First, is Akon the most popular hook artist out right now? And secondly, more like a statement, why is the tracklist full of commerical hip-hop artists? The 25th edition proves a fair set of songs for the average NOW buyer. Sure, we have hot hits from Avril Lavigne, Gwen Stefani, P!nk, and Justin Timberlake. We have hip-hop tracks from commerical acts Lloyd, T-Pain, Huey, and Bow Wow, along with mainstays Bone Thugs N Harmony and R&B artists Elliott Yamin and Ne-Yo in the mix. Then the pop-rockers ranging from huge acts Kelly Clarkson and Fall Out Boy to newcomers Boys Like Girls. And for 24 lacking the token country track, you now have both Carrie Underwood and Keith Urban stringing the violins and guitars. Therefore, the disc offers a fair selection, but quite a bit too many newcomers and feels more like a place to put your music to promotion then adding what really is hot. Too often, the newcomers take potiental spots from hot current artists, prime examples being Timbaland, Rihanna, Maroon 5, and especially summer flirt Sean Kingston. And that makes a thought that the disc is more suited to the young teens, as dance craze hip-hop artists such as T-Pain, Huey, and Mims get most of the spotlight. Aside from the hits, the tracklist may feel too empty to the older consumer. Still, Now That's What I Call Music! 25 offers a fair enough amount of hits and shouldn't disappoint too many who venture it, especially for a more summer suited disc, but some earlier editions are more versatile in their selections. 3 stars.

5 out of 5 stars Better Than Expected   July 18, 2007
 5 out of 10 found this review helpful

I am not going to make this a long review of Now! 25, it is a very well rounded collection of songs, put together much better than, Now! 24, 25 has a long of hits on it and I so far have listened to songs 1-7, without skipping also, songs 15, 17 and 18. That adds up to 10 songs in all that I've listened to, which is exactly half of the CD. Much of the same candidates are found , however Carrie Underwood makes her first appearance on a Now Cd, and after a 2 Now! abscence, Keith Urban returns. But like I said very good CD, well worth the purchase, cannot wait for Now! 26 due somewhere in November. A+

1. Fall out Boy B+
2. Avril Lavigne A+
3. Gwen Stefani B+
4. P!nk A+++++++++++++++++++++
5. Fergie C+
6. Beyonce/Shakira A+++++++++++++++
7. Justin Timberlake A++++++++++++++++
15. Kelly Clarkson A+++++++++++++++++++
17. Keith Urban A++++++++++++++++++++++
18. Carrie Underwood A++++++++++++++++++

In future Now! CD's I will no longer review, songs that I have never heard so only songs I know will get reviewed, that's way only 10 appear in this review.

Now! 26

Just to name a few.

3 out of 5 stars Good mixture of pop, R&B, and poppy-rap... if that's a genre   August 7, 2007
Since 1998, NOW That's What I Call Music has been putting out 2 or 3 albums a year showcasing the most "popular" music of the short period each disc represents. And now, less than a decade after their first release, they've hit a landmark: number 25. Not that the 25th volume is seperated from the previous 24 in any way, it's just a nice round number. Once again, the producers of NOW have simply included 20 hits from popular artists that received the most radio play and set it out for the masses to enjoy.

Most of the songs presented on this compiliation received so much radio play that listeners will recognize them whether or not they ever listened to pop, R&B, or hip-hop stations. You know them; they play in the mall, at theme parks, in commercials, on tv shows, insistently putting themselves out there for everyone's listening pleasure. And if you've honestly never heard any of these songs, then you're probably not reading this review because you're not at all interested in pop music, shopping, or television.

Volume 25 includes a good mixture of pop, hip-hop, and poppy rap... if that's a genre. There's also a few country songs thrown in for good measure. Each song is a little more saccharine than the last, and the entire collection of 20 songs has about as much substance as a pound of cotton candy. But of course, substance isn't what's important here. What's important is if these songs and artists are recognizable. And with names like Fergie, Avril Lavigne, Pink, Fall Out Boy, Justin Timberlake, Shakira, Beyonce, Kelly Clarkson, and Keith Urban, it's hard to deny that this is a high profile compilation. And for inoffensive and popular background music at a party, there's probably not a better collection out there. It's even better if it's a junior high party.
