Not for Beginners August 11, 2000 9 out of 9 found this review helpful
Volume 10 in this complete and unprecedented New Wave series certainly lives up to the standards of the rest of the albums. It includes several more well known songs (Our House--a standard in any 80s compilation), as well as many more 80s tunes less universally known (Putin' on the Ritz, etc). For fans of the New Wave series and New Wave music in general, this CD is a valuable addition to your collection. However, if you are only looking for the standards in 80s music and the best of New Wave, I would suggest you shop around first to see if there are any better New Wave CDs with more of the classic hits you want.
Another excellent disc in the NWHOT80's series October 26, 2004 5 out of 7 found this review helpful
I tend to judge these discs not by the number of instantly familiar tracks that they have, but rather by the number of great songs that you heard once or twice and could never manage to track down anywhere else. Of the big hits, only the Human League's "(Keep Feeling) Fascination" actively nauseates, but this is only a minor criticism. The rest of the songs make for an overall enjoyable listen, with The Jam's "Beat Surrender", The Plimsoul's "A Million Miles Away" and A Flock Of Seagulls "Wishing" all combining to push the collection over the top and out of the realm of the ordinary. (Extra points because the Jam and the Plimsouls songs are truly excellent and as far as I'm concerned were truly lost.)
Detroit Radio 80's classics!! July 21, 2005 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
I ordered this CD used & what a bargain!! Almost every song takes me right back to the tunes that had radio play in Detroit in the 80's - 89X! I don't think you'll be sorry with this one.
Too Overpriced for A Few One Hit (if that) Wonders May 31, 2008 I've got a bunch of this series discs that I bought when they were just issued, it looks like they made a whole bunch more, lol. So I am checking out these songs and at least on this one they are pretty weak. Also it's 19.00 plus 3.oo shipping USED? I'll pass, I believe in a free market but I honestly don't think there are that many people buying discs in this series at those kind of prices. I could get two or three complete albums from these artists for the price of this one compilation. 3 stars for the material on this particular disc and one star for the used price (22.00 delivered the cheapest? Get Real).
