5 out of 5 stars Yet another great one in the series   June 14, 2005

I've been picking up these in the "Compilations" section over the years, and have never stopped enjoying them.

I'm not sure why they are referred to "Dance Hits", because I was a New Waver back in the day and I don't recall too many being played at the clubs (can you imagine trying to groove to "Sunglasses at Night"?!), though many were ("Der Kommisar", "Tenderness" are STILL being played at numerous "Old Wave" clubs to this day).

The true gem in this one that you'll very likely not find anywhere else is "Anywhere With You" by Rubber Rodeo. Solid bass riff, melancholy guitars; a very good song that unfortunately got zero airplay. They were too busy playing Michael Jackson, I guess...!

5 out of 5 stars Nowhere Else   March 17, 2002

Many songs on this particular volume are hard to find elsewhere. Exception of Love by The Truth is a great discovery, as is The Colour Field's cover of Can't Get Enough Of You Baby. Some reviewers have singled out one song and dismissed the rest, and that's their loss. Variety means that there's something for everyone, and this disc is for those open to variety.

1 out of 5 stars Only 1 Reason To Buy This: Miracle Legion!   April 10, 2001

One of the weaker entries in this hit-and-miss collection of New Wave singles, there is only one legitimate reason to own this, but it's a great reason: Miracle Legion's "The Backyard." Miracle Legion was a mid-80's college radio band which, like most of the college radio bands of the era, had that sort of post-Byrds, post-VU moody guitar jangle sound (i.e. R.E.M., Guadalcanal Diary, Reivers, Connells, Winter Hours, etc.). Not a great band, but this one song -- by far their best -- is unforgettable. An irresistable hook and some moving lyrics about growing out of boyhood make it one of those songs that, 15+ years later I can still sing from memory. It bears about as much relationship to "New Wave" as, say, Husker Du, but, hey, what can you do. The rest of this disc ranges from the sort of lame radio hits my generation was forced to live with at the time ("Voices Carry") to songs so bad that the mere thought of them still makes me wince ("Sunglasses at Night").

I am 11 years old and this album has two of my favorite songs, Der Komissar and One Night In Bangkok

4 out of 5 stars A terrific blend of all the New Wave hits I like to hear.   September 9, 1999

It was a terrific blend of all the New Wave hits I wanted to hear again. "Der Kommissar" is as electrifying as ever. "One Night in Bankok" is surprisingly a rare find, and it is as entertaining as it ever was, and "Voices Carry" helps to add nostalgia to any '80s collection.
