| Editorial Reviews:
Amazon.com The Cure is bombarding us with disposable product: There's Show, the soundtrack from the film of its Detroit stop on the '92 Wish tour; Side Show, an EP of five live tunes not included on Show, and Paris, a different live set recorded in Europe. Considering that much of its reputation rests on Tim Pope's visionary videos, Show (the movie) is a dreadful bore, concentrating exclusively on the band performing, much like Pink Floyd's Live At Pompeii. The soundtrack is just as tedious, skimping on the catchy hits ("Friday I'm in Love" is here, but not "The Love Cats") and dwelling on droning mood pieces such as "From the Edge of the Deep Green Sea." Show is for the devoted only, while the other discs are for those devotees who actually go out in public dressed like Fat Bob. --Jim DeRogatis

Jim De Rogatis should be sent out to pasture! May 15, 2000 12 out of 13 found this review helpful
I am usually a gentle person, Jim DeRogatis, but I put it to you that both you and your egotistical, mean-spirited, pseudo-sophisticated criticism of great art will rapidly be forgotten by History, whilst great musical masterpieces like 'From the edge of a deep Green Sea' by The Cure (To name just ONE amongst NUMEROUS lovely songs that you have trashed), will be remembered and treasured by other human beings for a long long time. Time is the best proof of quality, and the Cure's marvellous music will continue to soar, conquering time and transcending place, long after your petulance is no more...why a great site such as Amazon pay you good money is quite beyond me...
Indisposable Live Cure February 26, 2000 9 out of 10 found this review helpful
I kind of agree with the reviewer above about Show--it's definitely a piece of Cure product. But I disagree with him about Paris. Paris, thank God, is Robert Smith's acknowledgment to Cure fans, a live record of the lesser-known, mostly early songs. I've always enjoyed Cure concerts because Smith never forgets to devote a significant portion of the set to older, gloomier, punkish material--the very material that sends some fans (like me) screaming, and sends other fans (the teeny-boppers or newly-converted) absolutely confused. Thus, Paris marks the first legitimate live release of classic Cure material
Excellent Live CD October 5, 2001 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
Paris is a wonderful live album. Anyone who enjoys The Cure as well as people who have never heard The Cure before, will want to enjoy this cd!
A WORTHY SUCCESOR TO "CONCERT" September 26, 2003 2 out of 6 found this review helpful
THE CURE'S FIRST LIVE CD "CONCERT" INTRODUCED ME TO THE BAND IN 1984, BEFORE ANYONE ELSE ( AT LEAST IN MY SMALL CORNER OF THE WORLD ) HAD CAUGHT ON TO THEM. CUT TO 10 YEARS LATER, AFTER POP STARDOM, SCREAMING ( AND SOMETIMES CRYING ) TEEN GIRLS, ETC ETC, AND THE CURE ARE STILL OFF BEAT ENOUGH TO INCLUDE MANY OBSCURE ALBUM CUTS ON THIS LIVE CD, A WORTHY SUCCESOR TO "CONCERT" ( AND BETTER THAN "SHOW" WHICH CONCENTRATES MOSTLY ON THE POPPIER SIDE OF THE CURE.) I FOR ONE AM GLAD TO HEAR NEW LIVE VERSIONS OF TRACKS LIKE "THE FIGUREHEAD" AND "AT NIGHT", AS THERE HAD NOT BEEN ANYTHING COMMERCIALLY AVAILABLE UP TIL THEN. IF YOU GET A CHANCE TO HEAR BOOTLEG CONCERT RECORDINGS OF THE CURE , CIRCA 1981-1982, COMPARE THEM TO THIS. THE SOUND IS MORE FULL( BUT NOT OVER-PRODUCED ) AND THE PERFORMANCES ARE MORE ACCOMPLISHED. NOT TO MENTION THAT THE CURE FOUND A DECENT DRUMMER AFTER YEARS OF EMBARASSING SHOWS WITH LOL TOLHURST. ONE FINAL NOTE - I MUST TAKE EXCEPTION TO THE AMAZON REVIEWER WHO LAMENTS THE EXCLUSION OF THE CURE'S POP SONGS ON "PARIS" ( WHICH, TO MY WAY OF THINKING, WAS MADE FOR THE DIE HARD FANS WHO APPRECIATE THE DARKER SIDE OF THE BAND ). I DEFY ANY TRUE FAN OF THE CURE TO WANT TO HEAR A LIVE VERSION OF "THE LOVE CATS".
The better "Cure" show. November 18, 2003 2 out of 3 found this review helpful
"Paris" is kind of the companion piece to their other live disc "Show", but to me, this is far superior. "Show" has alot more of the hits, and pop "Cure" songs, but this has the darker, and more obscure "Cure" that I think the hardcore fans really love. It starts off with a few tracks from the "Pornography" and "Seventeen Seconds" albums, then throws in a few from "Wish", plus others. There's a few upbeat songs like "Catch", "Dressing Up", and "Close To Me", but for the most part it's fairly gloomy. Given the overall mood of the album, I could easily see some other choice cuts on here. Specifically "A Strange Day", "Sinking", and the excellent "All Cats Are Grey". Big fans of "Disintegration" should love this, and vice-versa. They're just two of many amazing "Cure" records that you should have "In Your House".
