Die Krap!!! July 16, 1999 10 out of 14 found this review helpful
This CD is the biggest piece of crap I have ever heard. I'm proud to say that I don't own it, but I've heard much of its content. There is really no band worthy of covering Metallica, but this band is the least worthy. The awesome opening of "For Whom the Bell Tolls" was replaced by Techno-weird, and "The Unforgiven" beginning is mangled beyond recognition. I haven't actually heard their cover of "One", but I want to keep it that way, because it's my favorite song of all time. If I were James,Kirk,Jason,or Lars, I would sue these guys for all they're worth (which can't be that much). This CD should be titled "An Insult to Metallica".
Stay away from this one! June 21, 2001 4 out of 7 found this review helpful
Get this album if: 1) you like techno 2) you don't like Metallica in the first place 3) you've never heard any of Die Krupps' albumsI love Metallica and I love Die Krupps, but for some reason combining them was a BAD idea. Picture springy, robotic versions of 'tallica's songs barely recognizable from the originals, and Die Krupps totally selling out in some wierd way, and you get the idea. No matter how much you like Metallica, there's nothing much here worth saving.
A great CD for angering a Metallica fan. October 23, 2001 3 out of 6 found this review helpful
Judging from the reviews here and the time I played this for my sister (who is a huge Metallica fan), I'd say that no red-blooded Metallica fan would stand by this EP. However, James Hetfield and Lars Ulrich did endorse it (according to the liner notes), but I think they have a much better sense of humor about what other bands do to their music than their fans do. Personally, I enjoyed it. But what I found to be the strangest thing about it is that Die Krupps (and that's pronounced "dee" krupps because it's German) produced this before they began incorporating metal guitars into their music, so that nowadays they sound much more like Metallica than they did in the early '90s. In fact, they're featured on the industrial tribute to Metallica, "Covered In Black", doing "Battery", although it is a newer, more metal-sounding version than the one on this CD.
I can't believe James & Lars allowed this July 1, 2000 2 out of 4 found this review helpful
This album is one of the most atrocious few minutes of music I have ever heard. They give you two versions of "One" and they both sound outright comical- though I'm sure that was unintended. Besides the strong accent, the singer always sounds like he's running out of breath and trying to squeeze out his last few words before he passes out- too bad he never did.
Good Job, totally worth buying March 30, 1999 2 out of 3 found this review helpful
Hmm, I should admit that so many core-metallica fans would dislike this stuff. But I think this is very(yes, very) interesting variation based on die Krupps's own translation from the original. Actually I first got this when I was in Korea three years ago, and I bought it here in Houston again. I love this stuff.
