Zombies, Werewolves, and Jazz, oh my! November 1, 2004 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
"Songs for the Dead" is the latest release from Bella Morte, and the follow-up to their Death Rock EP. The albumn is an amazing collection of rocking punk tunes, delivered with a rawness and passion which old-school punk fans should love. There is also some excellent diversions of style, from the metal-esque "Final Words" to the jazzy, wonderful "The Devil's Eyes." Bella Morte is never afraid to play around with genres, and the results, as always, are spectacular. Lyrically, the albumn is concerned with death, horror, fear, sorrow, and, of course, zombies. Overall, "Songs for the Dead" is an excellent collection of gothic rock fused with punk, a showcase of the band's musical talents and Andy's gorgeous voice. Anyone who loves punk, goth, catchy tunes, and eating brains will love this cd.
Not a new direction October 9, 2005 1 out of 5 found this review helpful
If you read in the CD liner notes, Bella Morte say that this album is in no way the musical direction the band is going, they just wanted to make an EP that focused on their more "punk" sounding stuff. It's a good thing because this is nowhere near as good as their previous efforts. I don't like Bella Morte's punk stuff, or punk music in general, I actually like the more electronic stuff a whole lot better. "Where Shadows Lie" is my favorite album, and "The Quiet" my second. I bought this because I'm a huge fan of the band, and I figured that I'd like pretty much anything they did, but this is pushing it. I can't say I hate this, but I definately don't like it either. There's really nothing outstanding on here, and it feels like there's a lack of emotion throughout. I only listened to it a few times, then I put on "Where Shadows Lie" and listened to some good Bella Morte.
A Worthy Sequel to Death-Rock EP October 28, 2004 If there's one thing that the guys from Bella Morte know, its zombies. In this wondrous disc, you'll find an assortment of death-rock tunes concerning the undead, however, the few non-zombie songs are actually the stand-out tracks.
In "The Devil's Eyes", a song written by new keyboardist, Micah Consylman, the band ventures into new territory with a jazzy, swing-infused ditty that really showcases Andy Deane's vocals as he croons about the "demon" within.
Another exeption to the zombie rule is a track called "The Stranger", a punk tune with a catchy riff, and werewolf-based lyrics.
All in all, this disc is another triumph for the Bella boys, and I highly recommend checking it out.

deathrock for the masses October 30, 2004 Well, as usual Bella Morte does not dissapoint. Picking up where their 'Deathrock ep" left off, this album features their more punk/metal driven tunes, as opposed to the more goth/synth/electronic side. These guys have ventured into many different styles and genres, and always with great results. "The Forgotten" just f**king rocks! "Devil's Eyes" has a jazzy, sleazy vibe to it. Other favs include "Legend" (viscious as hell), "Final Words" (their first metal tune, brutal), and the beautiful album closer "Untitled." these guys are one of music's best kept secrets, so check them out.
Rock! November 2, 2004 0 out of 1 found this review helpful
....and yet another beautiful chapter from Bella Morte.... This album is "death-rock" at its finest. It sounds live, wicked, and is full of intense energy. BM takes a step away from their synth-driven tunes to bring you something from their zombie vaults. This album is a breath of fresh air for those of us that are sick and tired of pop-punk wannabe fools. If you want something real, get this album. You'll chant with them in "Legend", ("Destroy!!!"), Go psycho from the xylophonic pulse of "The Devil's Eyes". "Dead Will Walk" is a perfect theme song for all of you zombies out there. "Untitled" is a kickass instrumental track that sounds like a horror flick theme. My personal favorite on the album is "The Stranger", "I look into the past to find the reasons why I'm left alone. My heaven will be my revenge for those I've lost to them." So, kiddies, get your arse out there and pick up the latest installment from the Bella Morte collection. I am fully satisfied and I am sure the dead are honored...
