Great sound, great CD! September 12, 2008 I've been a long-time fan of this band, so I couldn't wait for new acoustic takes on these songs. If you're a huge fan of the band it's a must buy. If you're a new fan, this may be a good starting point. You get a taste of their older songs plus an idea of the soundscape for their new material( last track is a new composition). Songs like Angelica sound great in this acoustic setting. Overall, this may seem like a greatest hits release for some, but the new arraingments and sound production are breathtaking. Highly recommended!
Excelent, as always September 12, 2008 Anathema is unique. A breathless mix of melody and sensibility is what you can expect from this album. Buy it now.
Foresight September 22, 2008 Hindsight made me go back through all my Anathema albums again just to recapture the intense emotions that they and a very few others can produce. Simply stunning. I cant wait for Horizons to come out. Hurry up guys!!!! I gave it four stars because of the crappy vocals on the song A Natural Disaster. The vocals are just horrible-the music itself is wonderful but the vocals....umm. Just my opioion. That and the album is way to short. I wish it had 15 or 16 songs instead of the ten. This album is a must have for anyone who likes good music.
This should be required listening for any music fan. September 27, 2008 This album really should not be as good as it is. Basically it is womwhat of a greatest hits album, except that the songs were rerecorded and in some cases rearranged. Most bands who attempt this don't produce anything memorable. Anathema, on the other hand, are such immense songwriters but didn't necessarily always put their work in the best light. The original recording of Angelica for instance, was poorly recorded at a time when Cavanagh really had not found his singing voice yet (he made a drastic improvement between "Eternity" and "Alternative 4"), here this gorgeaous song is finally done justice. This album works because the songs are all extraordinarily strong. They are not simply good, many of them could be called great, and I would only say this about very few songs that I like. Anathema's songs have a classic, timeless beauty to them. By picking some of their strongest works and recording them in a way that makes them flow together seamlessly, Anathema have produced what could possibly be considered their best album. I would highly receommend this to anyone, and if I had to introduce this band to someone this would definitely be the best starting point (unless that person is a doom metal fan of course).
