A Split of Nightmares February 26, 2005 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
This is an incredible split, probably the best I've ever purchased. Two incredible west coast bands, Aiden and Stalins War, delivering four scintillating tracks each, what could be better?
Aiden is a melodic hardcore/punk band from Seattle, WA. The immense yet beautuful mixture of hardcore, punk rock and metal gives Aiden a unique sound sure to explode soon enough. With one full-length already released on a small indie label called Dead Teenager Records called "Our Gang's Dark Oath", they have recently been signed to label heavyweights Victory. They are heading into the studio to record the highly anticipated follow-up to "Our Gang's..." titled "Nightmare Anatomy" due out August 15th 2005. (...)
Stalins War is a metalcore band from Santa Cruz, CA. Combining talented guitarwork with a (...) female vocalist, they have a sound all their own. They have attracted a huge fanbase after the release of "Rebirth from Flames" and have exploded onto the SoCal scene, leaving everyone else in their wake. (...)
There's a review that should be able to help you out. Basically, if you're a screamo fan, you can't go wrong with either one of these bands. So, if you like what you hear, tell your friends to tell their friends and so on, and just enjoy some amazing music.
Amazing Split.. March 17, 2005 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
Each of us knows the drill, because, at one time or another, we have all done it. More often than not, when word of a new split begins to spread on the scene, the general fan-base will be cut down the middle. Half of the listening crowd will have a fond admiration and addiction to `Band A', while the other portion will swear by the likes of `Band B'. Then the skipping begins; extensive use of the good ol' fast forward button is well under way, the endless push-n-press ritual leaving our index finger sore and swollen. But, as with most unpleasant duties, it's inevitable. Especially true with hardcore splits, we tend to be delighted by the musical genius of one group, and utterly disgusted by the crunchy, poorly produced squealing of the second.
What is so utterly impressive about this split is that both bands are equally admirable, and pleasantly addicting - no skipping action over here. Stalin's War and Aiden each flawlessly present a unique sound, a notable movement in a genre that has recently been desperate for musical distinction and groundbreaking quality.
Structured around an emotionally charged spinal cord, and supported by softer, melodic undertones, Aiden demonstrates a precise intuition - an amazing source of musical knowledge that leads to a refreshing formula of well rounded hardcore that still remains hard to come by. It is clear that Aiden pushes the envelope without shoving us over the edge - musical aggression is never overly used or unnecessarily exaggerated, we get just the right doses of catchy riffs and pure insanity. Instrumental talent runs thick through the album's tracks, and is rightfully paired with explosive vocals.
Stalin's War presents four amazing tracks on this album. The vocals are at times, astonishing, flawlessly jumping from raspy violence to delicate clarity. Fueled by an obvious passion for musical variety, Stalin's War challenges our imbedded expectations about hardcore with a style that is truly one of a kind. Even the backing vocals are something to take close notice of - outstanding female lead vocals are perfectly intertwined with strong male back ups. This creates an atmosphere of total completion - nothing is carelessly left out, or awkwardly sticking outward from the seams. All we hear is pure flow and a real uniqueness that leaves you wanting more.
This collaboration is one to remember and highly recommended - you will not be disappointed by the likes of either of these incredible bands.
Awesome Split! March 30, 2005 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
I was looking for this album and now I own it. And I'm very happy, because it is really cool. Aiden and Stalin's War (now they are The War) made great work. I really think that this is the best split ever! Please buy this cd and support these two great bands. My scores:
1.Aiden - Knife Blood Nightmare 5/5: Great opener. I really love the intro and the rest rules. Victory Records made a video for this song. Check it out!
2.Aiden - Goodbye We're Falling Fast 5/5: Best song of Aiden on this cd. It's just so great. The hard and the sweet parts, the chorus just everything is so great.
3.Aiden - I Set My Friends On Fire 5/5: This song is also on Aiden's album Our Gang's Dark Oath. It's the same one. And yeah, it's a great song.
4.Aiden - Pledge Resistance 4/5: Another good Aiden song, but why Pledge Resistance? Why not Life I Left Behind or The Dawn Breakingt Tide. These are also on their debut album.
5.Stalin's War - This Lost Town Of Wandering Souls 5/5: Cool song of Stalin's War. I really love Moama's voice. And well, she's also beautiful. It's starts hardly, but then comes her voice and that's the better part.
6.Stalin's War - Divide By Zero 5/5: Best song on this cd. It's also the sweetest und almost without screaming. Yeah, I love everything.
7.Staling's War - A Silent Homecoming 4/5: Good song, but somehow I miss Moama's vioce. She should have sung more.
8.Stalin's War - This World Has No Heartbeat 5/5: The last song and so awesome. The best part in this song is when the piano begins to play. Great.
Almost every song on this cd is new (only I Set My Friends On Fire and Pledge Resistance not) and almost every one rocks! Please buy this cd and check out their websites to listen to some tracks of them.
