Different Skye yes, but... November 5, 2007 8 out of 9 found this review helpful
There is no doubt that this is a much different Skye Sweetnam than we heard on Noise From the Basement. But this is still a great cd. The guitars are lessened quite a bit, but alot of the songs still kick, with the techno beats and synthesizers paving the way. MAKE OUT SONG recalls the 80's with a Missing Persons-feel,(but more aggresive), HUMAN also manages to combine a driving beat with a catchy chorus. In fact, she manages to effectively combine driving techno beats with catchy choruses in most of the material, and still include a nice memorable sweet balad in Scary Love. The only thing keeping this from being a 5 star review is the slight childish CARTOON and parts of UlTRA, where she seems to like to hear herself with rhyming kid phrases (CITY, KITTY, PRETTY) check out the non-album BRING IT BACK great tune from this talented girl whom I can't WAIT to hear from again. Capitol dropping her in the US was stupid. This girl ROCKS.
Big Changes for Skye November 5, 2007 4 out of 4 found this review helpful
Altough in some ways it is very different from Skye's older release, Noise From the Basement, i believe that Sound Soldier was a success. I got the CD today, expecting to only find a few tracks that i really enjoyed, but honestly i love the entire CD. She has gone with more of a electronic based sound, but she has still managed to keep her more hard edge than your average pop singer. She has constantly been compared to Avril, but i find Skye's music much more intriguing because, now more so than ever, she is speaking her mind with her lyrics, and singing about things she wants to. So, to any Skye fans, or newcomers, i would highly recommend checking out her new album.
Just plain bad October 30, 2007 3 out of 20 found this review helpful
Noise From The Basement (Skye Sweetnam's debut) was stellar, no two ways around it. I'm going to go out on a limb here and say it was probably one of the best records I'd ever listened to, and I've heard thousands. Three years later, I can still listen to it and enjoy every minute. Flash forward to 2007 and Sound Soldier. Seriously, what happened!?!? This can't be the same skye sweetnam that did NFTB. No Way! Another look at the album cover confirms what I had refused to believe; Skye has gone soft and mainstream in a major way. If you're ever heard anything by Britney Spears, Aly and AJ or [Insert Random Dance Pop Singer Here], you've heard Sound Soldier. I still can't believe it's this bad.
Where did Skye go??? November 1, 2007 3 out of 8 found this review helpful
Noise from the basement was so much better than this. I have only listened to a couple of songs from this cd and they are pretty good. They remind me a little bit of Ashley Tisdale but maybe with a little harder edge. I don't mind the songs but I definitely like Noise from the basement a lot better. I like the song 'Music is my boyfriend' and out of the 3 or 4 I listened to that one was my favorite. She took on a more pop-techno type of music and is not as guitar driven as her Noise from the basement. If you like Skye Sweetnam's music and you liked Noise from the basement then I would definitely give Sound Soldier a listen; it could be worth the time and it does have some good songs on it.
The CD isn't in stores yet!! November 6, 2007 3 out of 3 found this review helpful
For some reason I called most of the stores where I live, and they don't carry it. What gives? I ordered it online here, and can't wait to get it. I'm surprised their hasn't been more advertisements about it. From what I've heard from the audio samples, it sounds pretty good to me, if not better.
