Album Description Urban Verbs was a new wave rock group in the vain of Talking Heads. Their lead singer was Roddy Frantz, brother of Talking Heads drummer Chris Frantz. They recorded two albums in the 1980's. Early Damage, their second album from 1981, is now making its worldwide CD debut.

Some of the Best You Never Heard Of May 22, 2008 6 out of 6 found this review helpful
This is one of my all-time favourite albums. It is darker and moodier than their first album, and less accessible for it, but its worth persevering with because it has so much to offer. The songs are characterised by strong, solid rhythms that bring to mind the best of Shreikback, with great guitar sounds and interesting an unique vocals providing counterpoint. My favourites are Acceleration and In the Heat but there isn't a dud track on this album. If you need other comparisons, I'd say that they are almost like a thinking man's A Flock of Seagulls and if you like The Cars first few albums, you will probably enjoy this band, although I'd suggest you buy their other album first as its easier to get into. The only disappointment is that the CD release contains no bonus tracks or anything of interest in the booklet. But when the music is as good as this, it really doesn't matter.
really good! June 26, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
Very original. Very awesome. I had the very good fortune to grow up on the music of the Urban Verbs. It is a sound that I never tire of. I can go back to this album (and their first one as well) again and again and again. The music is awesome. The sound they created is so awesome. Robert Goldstein's music, Roddy Frantz's vocals, Robin Rose's analog synth and Danny Frankel's drumming all come together for an incredible melange of sound that I only wish there was more of. The thing about this album that one gets used to upon repeated listening is that for the most part the music is over the lyrics instead of vice versa. It is so rich and so awesome. My favorite tracks (among a favorite album) are In the Heat and Terminal Bar (a favorite among favorites). If you don't know this music and are the least bit interested I highly recommend it. You will not be sorry.
