This is one of the best bands ever to form and collapse. This cd includes all of the tracks Jaks ever recorded from their 1993 7-inch entitled "Five Nine" (named after their cat if memory serves correctly)to their their first full length as well as the "Damn Bloodsucker" 7-inch. Jaks was a band whose live shows were intense, dark, sexual, but always with an underlying fun about them. It was as if they took The Birthday Party and mixed them with the Jesus Lizard and Trenchmouth to create a hybrid that hinted of all but sounded nothing like any of them. In all, I think I went to about every show in Ann Arbor after I met the band memebrs as well as setting up a couple of shows at my collegiate alma mater. One of the most memorable shows was at "The Cellar" in Ann Arbor with Chore opening. The energy of the show was indescribable and it seemed that at every minute the audience was on the verge of explosion with the music. However, Jaks cast their musical spell and kept us under their total control for the duration of their set. The CD never captures the energy of the live show but it gives a solid insight into the originality and creativity of one of the best bands Ann Arbor ever produced.
If you want a band that will turn heads and challenge people's sense of reality then you need to add this to you collection.
