5 out of 5 stars Not "goth".. an excellent cd from classic artists   November 6, 1999

Die form is beautifully crafted industrial, and i'd recommend it to any fan of intelligently designed industrial music. It is not depressing, not "goth." (WTF is "goth" anyway? annoying obsession with death, black, and conforming to a sub-culture which aspires to be.. nonconformist?)

5 out of 5 stars Best of? Heck yeah!   August 1, 1998

This should be your first exposure to Die Form. (pronounced, "D Form") As the back cover reads in part, Die Form can best be described as: 'techno-sex music, industrial electro-dance or more experimental futurist constructions'. This album is of course, a best of album, one you should pick up without hesitation, if you're into any type of techno and/or industrial/electro music.

5 out of 5 stars Elain P's voice is fabulous!   June 27, 2003

I don't care for Phillipe Fichot's voice. It sounds like Skinny Puppy- (which I like because there is humor to that rasping voice and his lyrics).
I admire Fichot's concept, but his singing does'nt work for me. There is a track called Kagami.. which means mirror in Japanese, I believe its sung by a Japanese woman and it is hauntingly ghostly.
My favorite songs are Cantique and Kagami.
On their album Duality, I love Rain of Blood, which is sung by Elain P.

2 out of 5 stars Weak Cleopatra comp; get HISTORIES instead...   February 17, 2005

Now, Die Form are one of my favorite bands, but I must say that they are treated pretty badly on this meager Cleopatra compilation. It would appear that Cleopatra only bothered to get the licensing for DF's work under the Hyperium label, and while this material is unquestionably fantastic, it is by no means the entire story. Almost completely absent is DF's back catalogue with little European indie labels like Normal, Danceteria, and Parade Amoureuse (which makes up over half of their recorded output), as well as Philippe Fichot's pre-VISIONARY GARDEN solo projects.

The two-disc HISTORIES is a much more complete overview of the band's work, so as VICIOUS CIRCLES is out-of-print anyway, let it sink into obscurity and pick up HISTORIES instead.

NOTE: I would have given this three stars, if only for the inclusion of "Masochist 2," which is a great reworking of an old DF track, but seeing as how that's available on HISTORIES as well, there didn't seem much point...

4 out of 5 stars IF YOU WANT TO BE DEPRESSED GET THIS ALBUM!   March 23, 1999

This is a good album for true industrialists and goth's out there. A good introduction into Die Form. Some of the songs sound alike, and you can tell on many of them that Die form is straining to come up with something new and brillient. But over all it is a good album. Many of the songs are Brillient and put you in a mood that many artists can only dream of doing
