Customer Reviews:

4 out of 5 stars A smart, enjoyable label compilation   January 11, 2002
Too often, label samplers are a sucker play 'cause each band has that ONE good song that went on the compilation. Mercifully, this isn't the case on "Blackout A.D."

The best element of "Blackout" is the variety among the songs. Consequently, some of the tracks aren't great. Ichor's "You Lied" (Version 2) is basically a re-do of Front 242's "Nomenklatura 2". Patchworks' "Leftovers" is...well, it's called "Leftovers."

Fans of F&TM and Judith (like me) have submitted reviews of their albums; just read those and buy the albums. "Blackout" has other highlights:
> The Changelings - "Johnny Ether's Great Escape" (cool Middle- Eastern dream-pop)
> The Shroud - "Where The Wind Goes" (smooth, relaxing goth)
> Frankenstein - "Black Train Rollin'" (If Credence Clearwater Revival had done deathrock, this would be the song.)
> The Brickbats - "Funeral Drive" (goofy rock n' roll fun; a reminder that goth can be traced back to punk as much as glam)

This label sampler gives you an accurate read on the bands involved. Still, it never hurts to listen to some downloads before shelling out the bucks.

Viva NAM.
