WOW Hits does it again! October 3, 2007 47 out of 49 found this review helpful
Well, it's October and the lastest in the WOW Hits series is in stores. As usual, the WOW people have done a great job picking the songs, and they've put more Christian rock songs on (which is my favorite type of Christian music). I'll rate each song and add my comments:
Disc 1 (Yellow Disc): Made to Worship - Chris Tomlin - 4/5 Mountain of God - Third Day - 4/5 Hold Fast - MercyMe - 5/5 I've heard this song over the PA at work, and didn't know that it was by MercyMe until today! Praise You in This Storm - Casting Crowns - 4/5 Undo - Rush of Fools 5/5 One of the new artists on WOW Hits. Awaken - Natalie Grant - 4/5 I like Natalie, but I've always wondered, is she related to Amy Grant? Find Your Wings - Mark Harris - 4/5 Another artist that's new to the WOW Hits CDs. By His Wounds - Glory Revealed (featuring Mac Powell of Third Day, Steven Curtis Chapman, Brian Littrell, and Mark Hall of Casting Crowns) - 5/5 This song does remind me of the songs from the City on a Hill CDs on WOW Hits 2002 an 2003. I also like Brian's singing on this song. Everytime I Breathe - Big Daddy Weave - 5/5 Walking Her Home - Mark Schultz - 5/5 I like Mark Schultz's songs where he tells stories, like this song and Letters from War. Over My Head - Brian Litrell - 5/5 This is another great song by Brian. I hope he does well as a solo artist so that he will be known as a CCM star as well as a member of the Backstreet Boys. Come To the Cross - Michael W. Smith - 5/5 Give It All Away - Aaron Shust 5/5 Bless the Broken Road - Selah 5/5 Great Cover of the Rascal Flatts song. History - Matthew West 5/5 Set the World On Fire - Britt Nicole 5/5 This song is one of the bonus songs on this disc. It's about how God can help us in our lives and to "set the world on fire" in our own way. Still Calls Me Son - John Waller 4/5 This is the other bonus song, about a father who forgives his son for everything he's done wrong in his life.
Disc 2 (Orange Disc): Made To Love - Tobymac 5/5 While I figured that a Tobymac song would be on here, this wasn't the one I was hoping for ("Boomin'"), but this is still a good song. I Need You To Love Me - BarlowGirl 4/5 Something Beautiful - Newsboys 5/5 Me And Jesus - Stellar Kart 5/5 The Show - Hawk Nelson 5/5 Forgiven - Relient K 5/5 These three songs are fun rock songs to listen to! What It Means - Jeremy Camp 4/5 Nothing Left To Lose - Mat Kearney 5/5 I didn't realize that Mat Kearney was a Christian artist - I had written him off as a Chris Martin (lead singer of Coldplay) soundalike wannabe. I'll give him more of a chance now. I do like this song, but I am getting tired of it! Only the World - Mandisa 5/5 I really like this song, it shows off her voice! Don't Give Up - Sanctus Real 5/5 Breathe Into Me - Red 5/5 More great rock songs. Stand In the Rain - Superchick 4/5 Work - Jars Of Clay 5/5 I like this more than Dead Man (Carry Me) on WOW Hits 2007. Tears Of the Saints - Leeland 4/5 I Believe - Building 429 4/5 What If - PureNRG 5/5 This is the bonus song on this disc, it's a fun pop song about what we want to do or are doing in our lives as a career doesn't matter to God. The kids in this group sound like they're having a lot of fun singing this song!
EDIT: If you put either of the discs in your computer, you can go to a website where you submit your information, and then it "unlocks" 3 exclusive videos and 3 songs to download, which change monthly.
Great compilation November 12, 2007 10 out of 10 found this review helpful
I'm not a big fan of compilation, but this one is a pretty good one. It introduced me to many great artists that I've never heard before. It was such a blessing listening to this, some songs touched me, I felt as if they were written for me. Thanks for putting this together. I think it was a great idea, to put a pop comtemporary selection on one disk and rock one on another. Depending on my mood, I have the choice to pick which selection I want to listen to.
Still good stuff. February 15, 2008 6 out of 6 found this review helpful
Once again a very good bunch of music from numerous performers.
This genre has great appeal to the younger crowd as well as born again believers of the not-so-young category. Our kids and us both like to turn it up while on the road.
I think the WOW cds get a little anxious to get out the release, so it's not truly reflective of the best hits of the year (speaking of 2007). Also, the title of "Hits 2008" is an annoying misnomer.
This cd does unfortunately typify how alot of the newer music is not that theologically that strong, but it is still fun to listen to, and overall has a good message. Still way better than what is in the secular realm.
All things considered, it is a good variety of songs compiled to a cd that saves buying alot of individual ones.
A Great Sampler December 3, 2007 4 out of 7 found this review helpful
WOW Hits 2008 is another in the great line of WOW hits compilations.
It contains over thirty very good songs from the world of Christian music. It contains several different genres. The artists are as varied as Red, Relient K, Natalie Grant, and Toby Mac.
It features lots of must have Christian rock/pop hits from artists such as Third Day, Jars of Clay, Red, and Newsboys. For anyone who doesn't buy a lot of contemporary Christian albums, these WOW collections are a great way to get a wide range of top quality music.
The contemporary Christian music artists regularly put out the best music on the planet - not just lyrically, but also the music quality. This collection is certainly no exception. I highly recommend this. In addition to this, I would recommend any of the WOW Hits collections from previous years. They are all outstanding.
Excellent music choice January 15, 2008 4 out of 6 found this review helpful
I have 10 years worth of WOW Music. I started getting the WOW CD's Christmas of 1998 and it's been a continued trend since then. I bought this one myself for Christmas and have listened to it several times over already! This is one CD that will remain in my fave's!!
