| Editorial Reviews:
Amazon.com An indispensable and definitive collection showcasing the passionate genius of the late rapper. The album's nonchronological sequence highlights the contradictory impulses that made Tupac's music so commanding; the 21 well-loved "hits," some slightly reedited for legal reasons, are accompanied by four previously unheard songs. Of the new material, the raw-sounding "God Bless the Dead" has been the subject of the most speculation, owing to its subject matter: a eulogizing of the late Notorious B.I.G.--a mysterious feat, since Tupac was killed six months before Biggie. And, making its first proper appearance on a Tupac album, the B-side "Hit 'Em Up" stands as the most intense outburst of pure venomous rage ever captured on tape. Whether he's waxing political, philosophical, or just plain paranoid, Tupac's empathetic, charismatic style remains unmatched. --Charley Gothic

2Pac's best ever! June 19, 1999 80 out of 92 found this review helpful
2Pac's style, lyrics, beats, originality, (I can go on forever) will never be matched. What makes him so good is that he raps about things that actually happen to him when he's not talking about sex or cursing out east coast rappers. This is a great collection of songs, and some are edited for legal reasons. The addition of the unreleased songs, especially "Changes", puts this above All Eyez On Me as his best album. The ratings max at 100.keep ya head up- 95; 2 of amerikaz most wanted- 97; temptations- 89; god bless the dead- 96; hail mary- 96; me against the world- 90; how do u want it- 94; so many tears- 94; unconditional love- 94; trapped- 94; life goes on- 99; hit em up- 97; troublesome 96'- 96; brenda's got a baby- 92; i ain't mad at cha- 89; i get around- 96; changes- 99; california love- 93; picture me rollin'- 92; how long will they mourn me?- 94; toss it up- 94; dear mama- 96; all about u- 99 {BEST SONG}; to live & die in l.a.- 91; heartz of men- 90 beats- 99; lyrics- 100; originality- 100; OVERALL- 99
Seems more like, "Death Row's Greatest 2Pac Hits" August 20, 2002 33 out of 44 found this review helpful
I'm not gonna give this album five stars just because it's 2Pac. This is because, even though it's good to relive memories on such songs as "I Get Around" and "Hail Mary", there are a few flaws present. "All About U" cuts out Snoop's dialogue and is replaced with a Snoop-soundalike named Top Dogg doing a freestyle. "Changes" features lyrics previously heard in "I Wonder if Heaven Got a Ghetto". And lastly, it seems like Suge and co. really wanted people to know that 2Pac was on Death Row because the majority of songs on here are from All Eyez on Me and The 7 Day Theory, while "If My Homies Call" and "Holler if You Hear Me" are noticeably absent. In the place of those are anti-Bad Boy songs like "God Bless the Dead" and "Hit 'Em Up" (like we really need to be reminded about what could have possibly gotten him killed in the first place).R.I.P. Tupac, and I pray that Death Row won't keep depending on your legacy to make money.
Tupac is up there with Rock music's all-time greatest... May 2, 2000 25 out of 29 found this review helpful
I'm not a very big fan of the "music" they call rap but Tupac Shakur truly transcends hip hop as a music form and that fact is very evident when one listens to this double cd. The guy is a song writer not a rapper (like Eminem or the deceased Notorious BIG are rappers just rapping random things that rhyme and are clever)... though rap was his medium I put him up there with John Lennon and Bob Marley. The whole album is deep lyrically and the musical backdrop (provided by hip hop's best producers, Dr. Dre, Johnny J, Daz,Easy Mo Bee) is trump tight quality-wise. When you listen to this CD it's like you can get inside Shakur's mind... both the good and the bad. His clear emotional voice and poetical word combinations are that of a man who has seen it all. His death appears inevitable as one lets this album play. An incredible artist that totally transcended rap music. Long Live the memory of Tupac!
From early 2Pac, up till the end, all of the best songs. July 6, 1999 24 out of 27 found this review helpful
The Cd starts out with two great songs: Keep Ya Head Up and Two of Amerikaz Most Wanted. Keep Ya Head Up is about the troubles that our women suffer today. A slower sad song. Followed by Tupac and Snoop Dogg kicking a$$ in a song with the best beat and best lyrics. The next few songs aren't the greatest, but good beats and good lyrics. A few point outs for the rest of Disc One: Unconditional Love: A very, very good sad song about hard times and loved ones. Trapped: About livin a thug life. Life Goes On: Helping to understand death and giving dedication to their friend Kato. Hit 'Em Up: A powerful, vulgar rap portraying the hate against Biggie Smallz and Junior M.A.F.I.A. Disc Two: Troublesome is another powerful, fast song about living a hard life in the ghetto. Good Beat. Brenda's Got a Baby is a realistic portrayal of teen pregnecies and how life goes wrong for some. I Ain't Mad at ya is not a great song, but stands it's ground. Changes is one of Tupacs greatest. It's fast beat and poetically written lyrics combine to make a moving song about changing society and treating humans right. California love talks about the hustling scene in Cali. Picture Me Rollin, an upbeat boastful fun song about money, cars, and High Rollin. How Long Will They Mourn Me is a slower dedication by Thug life to Kato. Dear Mama is a song for Tupacs struggled stressed mother that did her best to raise Tupac. It's all About U is about women and sex, fast and fun. To Live and Die in L.A. is a slower song talking about the scene in South Cali. A compilation of 2Pacs best songs.
