Over produced and too mixed November 8, 2008 8 out of 17 found this review helpful
This album is over produced and over mixed. Every track sounds almost exactly the same. There doesn't seem to be any separation in instrument volume throughout. An example are the cymbals over powering the vocals and predominantly "in front" of everything else. When I should be hearing Angus going to town during a few of these tracks, he's being drowned out by all of the other instruments playing at the same unnatural volume.
I swear there's one track that sounds just like Aerosmith. If I heard the track on the radio, I would never know it was AC/DC.
I can't tell what the lyrics are without the lyric sheet in front of me because I can't hear them! And, don't give me the garbage that this is what AC/DC sounds like. I've been listening to AC/DC for nearly 30 years. I don't ever remember there being a mixing credit on the jacket of an album - there is one here. Someone got ahold of this and made it sound too mainstream by messing with the recording levels outside the recording sessions. My personal guess is that this album's tracks will sound fantastic live, but the final product of Black Ice is just not the Youngs' work.
Honestly, I'm trying to like it. I'm waiting to see if it grows on me. I really hope there's a live album coming with this tour, and I hope no one screws with it too much.
Give me the raw AC/DC of yesteryear!
THE BEST SONG October 28, 2008 7 out of 12 found this review helpful
all of this cd is great, only acdc can get away with what they do , repeating lyrics over n over , lol, awesome! , you just let this whole cd play ....loud! and when track 13 comes on you play it louder! as loud as your amp delivers. [without distorting of course] so go find yourself a place to work out ,bike, run, etc. crank the 2008 release of acdc and life is good with black ice! you just might experience a "rock n roll dream"
AWESOME! November 11, 2008 4 out of 6 found this review helpful
This CD is AWESOME!!!! What else can I say? Every track on here is a gift from the gods of rock! This is my 3rd favorite album (my first two being For Those About to Rock and Back in Black) from AC/DC. AC/DC never changes their sound and that's why they have so many fans. With all of this new-age "music" AC/DC does not change their style just to fit in with it. They say screw society's "music." This CD is about as good as the music industry is gonna produce for god knows how long so don't miss out! BUY BLACK ICE!!!!
EXCELLENT RETURN November 7, 2008 2 out of 4 found this review helpful
FROM THE FIRST TRACK TO THE LAST, THIS IS PROBABLY AC/DCS BEST CD/ALBUM. CONSISTENT ROCK AND ROLL ALL THE WAY. GREAT PRODUCTION OF VOCALS AND INSTRUMENT MIX WITHOUT TRYING TO LEAVE THEIR FORMULA FOR STRAIGHT AHEAD ROCK AND STAYING WITHIN THE EXPECTATIONS OF FANS. THE SLIDE GUITAR ON "STORMY MAY DAY" IS A SLIGHTLY WELCOME SURPRISE. SOUNDS GREAT. OTHER NOTABLE TRACKS INCLUDE "ROCK N ROLL TRAIN", "SKIES ON FIRE", "SPOILIN FOR A FIGHT", "DECIBEL", AND "ROCK AND ROLL DREAM". REALLY NO DISAPOINTMENTS IN THE MIX, WHICH IS TRADITIONAL AC/DC WITH MAYBE A LITTLE BETTER CONSISTENCY AND PROCUCTION VALUE. FUN TO LISTEN TO OVER AND OVER.
AC/DC still rocking!!!! December 14, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
Any diehard AC/DC fan has to love this album. This edition is also special due to the information booklet contained within. There are a few, not many, but a few new guitar riffs added to this album, but the bands signature is still intact. AC/DC is one of the few bands that have maintained a consistancy in their music. An example: Any song on this album, you automatically know your listening to AC/DC. They prove that even though they are getting older their song writing abilities, music skills, and vocals are still awesome. The video to "Rock n Roll Train" shows Brian Johnson gettng down just as he did in early times and Angus is still just lovin what he does best. Malcolm still has the touch, and they blend perfectly with each other. The bottom line is, AC/DC still rocks and they talk about life, how it really is, not how most people perceive it to be. Rock on!
