You know it's good when..... September 22, 2008 15 out of 24 found this review helpful
...it's Rush!
Yes, hundreds of thousands of fans turned out for both legs of the Snakes and Arrows tour and what a tour it was! True musicianship! Three true professionals doing what they love at their best - playing their music for their fans as only Rush can! I am so stoked and so excited! 221 minutes of one of the greatest rock bands of all time!
So, to the naysayers, before you even begin... Yes, us Rush fans can grade this as a 5-star product before it is released because we know it is. Many of us experienced it in 2007 and 2008.
Thank you Rush, for over 35 years of quality music and incredible shows!
Rush live on DVD you have to love it! October 3, 2008 15 out of 25 found this review helpful
I'll start with disc 3 of this set, it contains songs filmed in Atlanta in the next to the last night of the end of the tour. I was at the show and after the huge storm passed over the show went off without a hitch. Rush played perfect as usual, they were filming the show in HD the camera guys told us for an upcoming dvd, well this is that dvd. I'm sure some people even Rush fans will complain about how much of this dvd is comprised of live versions of songs from their latest cd Snakes and Arrows. And yes perhaps there were 1 or 2 to many that you would rather have and older song being played, but looking back on it now the newer songs are strong and hold up well in comparison to the classic hits. The video intro (spoiler alert)!..........by the boys from the South Park t.v. show for Tom Sawyer is a concert highlight and not to be missed. Rush also plays Passage to Bangkok which is also a "high" point of the dvd/concert. This dvd has way to many songs to play for you (as Geddy is fond of saying at the concerts)and the bottom line is this, if your a Rush fan your going to love this dvd, if your a casual fan this would be a great one to buy as songs from all the eras of Rush are represented here. If your not a Rush fan but maybe curious what all the hype is about check this out it's a great catching up point. 5 star rating and yes Rush still rocks hard after all these years! Thanks for reading.
STUNNING performance and DVD quality/sound!!! A 'must own'! November 25, 2008 14 out of 15 found this review helpful
I've been a Rush fan since 1912... kidding, since 1976. The 'fossil' that I am, i've probably seen them at least 40 times live beginning with the 'Farewell To Kings' tour way back when. I have all their CD's and DVD's. I have played their LP's (vinyl records) on an old 'Fisher' tube stereo receiver with 'Realistic' (Radio Shack) speakers, and 8-track tapes back in the day (70's). As an older '40-something' audiophile now thankfully making more than a high school kid did back then, I can now listen to them via high-end McIntosh equipment and Magneplanar hi-res speakers. Rush never sounded better! That said, and with my high expectations, this 'Snakes & Arrows' live DVD is INCREDIBLE, visually and sonic-wise! THIS IS HOW A LIVE CONCERT DVD SHOULD BE DONE! The camera work is stellar, with a good mix of closeups, medium range, and whole stage shots. Audio is excellent, both in stereo and in 5.1. And best of all, Rush is in absolute top form, moving, playing, and singing as if they were 25 again! This is a MUST OWN concert for Rush and/or prog rock fans!
Love Rush like there's no tomorrow, but this has terrible packaging November 17, 2008 12 out of 23 found this review helpful
Rush is one of the greatest rock bands ever (hello Hall of Fame! Rush should be in the Hall of Fame by now) and I can't wait to pop these discs into my DVD player, IF I don't scratch the discs' surfaces. This has the same horrible packaging as Cheap Tricks' new "Budokan!" box. The CDs are incredibly snug in cardboard slits, all in a flimsy package. No clam shell case or even slimline jewel cases here. Just a flimsy cardboard package with no trays whatsoever, so every time you do get the discs out, they will scratch, no matter how careful you are. It's frustrating that labels keep having ANTI-JEWEL CASE FEVER and keep issuing things that will scratch after just a few days. Bring back the jewel cases, please. Which is worse for the environment, stacks and stacks of these flimsy cardboard/slit packages and the CDs/DVDs they scratch piled high in landfills, or jewel cases in our homes?
Again, I am a massive Rush fan. I just hate the storage presentation in this case. :(
Magnificent!! November 27, 2008 11 out of 12 found this review helpful
Absolutely flawless! This BD has absolutely stunning camera work, and incredible sound, especially watching it in DTS-HD Master Audio. Amazing that they are only charging $20 for the BD version...This could easily be priced at $30. Every fan needs this in their collection. Rush n Rio was great, R30 was Excellent, this hands down tops both of those.
