A supurb debut release by Funker Vogt January 18, 2001 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
Thanks For Nothing is Funker Vogt's first full album release, but it's just as good as their more recent efforts. The first few tracks are about as harsh as industrial/EBM gets. Heavy distortion in the vocals, fast beats, and intricate sound programming is the general rule here. A great start for one of my favorite techno/industrial bands of all time. If you are a fan of any form of techno, give Thanks For Nothing a listen...you may be pleasently surprised.
the land of milk is boring April 29, 2001 2 out of 4 found this review helpful
ok, tastes are tastes, but i don't like Funker Vogt. This album seems to me as a sort of blend of Wumpscut and Leather Strip but lacking the most interesting elements of both these bands. I am neither a wumpscut nor a strip fan, but Funker Vogt is as agressive as Wumpscut but lacking the terrorific sounds this band creates; at the same time, the quick beat reminds me of Leather Strip but lacking the more gothic elements of the danish band; Funker Vogt's agressiveness seems to me unnatural, much too premeditated, lacking Skinny puppy's sense of humour (dark, but still observable) and theatrical tunes. 'Thanks for Nothing' is a bunch of agressive songs with which this band seemed to set the foundations for future industrial music, but the result is much too boring; all the songs are much similar to each other, and it makes me sad of how some industrial bands are developing. But, as always, that's just a question of likes and dislikes; i know some people love this band, so I hope they enjoy it.
Right assessment, wrong rating... November 6, 2001 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
(...)Funker Vogt is a sort of mix between :wumpscut: and Leaether Strip. But of course, as previously mentioned, tastes are tastes. I've recently become a big fan of Funker Vogt; having previously ignored them due to listening to some bad remixes. However, I have come full circle to state that Funker Vogt and this CD are definitely worthwhile. They are harsh, aggressive and great listens. Highlights include the title track 'Thanks For Nothing' and 'The Land Of Milk And Honey'; both are dark and dancable industrial tracks. However, this CD does not stop there. From front to back this CD is full of great songs. Highly recommended.
Perhaps Their Most Impressive Outing June 28, 2002 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
Funker Vogt's Thanks For Nothing could perhaps be the crowning gem in an already impressive array of masterpieces, partially because it seems to express exactly what Funker Vogt was trying to accomplish and partially because it showcases just what they're capable of doing. In fact, songs with long shelf lives like Black Hole (remixed on "T"), made their debut here, showing what exactly pushed the band to the forefront of the EBM/Industrial (if you adhere to those too-inclusive labels) scene. The album itself, charged with socially observant lyrics that address a number of foolish pack mentality subjects, wears a heavier, more primal skin than some of the following albums, giving it a sense of anger and the message a sense of urgency that later albums have - but to a lesser degree. I was actually glad to find this jewel on Amazon because it chronicles a really worthwhile interlude in the otherwise droll world of monotony-AKA the music scene. Its really worth taste testing.
Thanks... March 26, 2000 0 out of 1 found this review helpful
