When I heard that Jonathon Davis was writing 5 songs for the "Queen of the Damned" soundtrack.. Sure, i was excited, but i had no idea that it would turn out this brilliant. The five songs that he wrote have rapidly become 5 of my all time favourites. Everything about them, mood, lyrics.. It all fits a discontent Vampire like Lestat perfectly. In the process of writing these songs, Davis has given Lestat more character and more soul.. Which is a pretty mean feat. Yes, they may sound a bit like Gothic Korn songs.. But i see no problem with that.

With lyrics like "I've killed a million petty souls, but i couldn't.. Couldn't kill you... I've slept so long without you", and "I'm trapped in this world, lonely and fading, heartbroke and waiting, for you to come... We're, stuck in this world.. That's not meant for me" and finally "I hear it fading, i can't speak it, or else you will dig my grave".. John has made Lestat more of a tortured soul, a little more human, a little more confused, which is something that does happen in the later novels of the Vampire chronicles (eg. "Memnoch the Devil").

Davis does not sing these songs on the soundtrack (the reasons for which have yet to be properly explained, many said he sings in the film but not the soundtrack, others say it's the exact opposite), i was disappointed when i heard this, but when i saw the lineup of talent that was called in in his place, my disapointment turned to utter anticipation.

Wayne Static of Static X hit's things off with "Not Meant For Me", an angry song and a perfect start to the soundtrack. David Draiman of Disturbed (arguably the best of the new breed of Nu-Metal) is up next with "Forsaken", my second favourite. If any song sums up the trials and tribulations of a vampire, it's this. Linkin Park's Chester Bannington joins in with "System". While it's my least favourite of the five, that isn't saying much, as i dearly love them all. It, like the other four has great sound, great lyrics, an ominous mood, a nice length (at 5 minutes) and it actually picks up half way through and gets better, which is something of a rarity. The Big man himself.. Marilyn Manson joins the fun with "Redeemer" which will always hold a special place in my heart as it was the first of these songs that i ever heard, and when i heard it, relief washed over me as i knew i was in for something spectacular. I find it the most playful of the bunch, it get the feeling Marilyn is singing it with a sly little grin (don't ask me where that feeling comes from).

Like all good albums, they've saved the best for last, my personal (and everyone who i've played it for) favourite.. "Slept So Long" by Jay Gordon of Orgy. Anyone who has seen the "Family Values" tour knows that Gordon and Davis go together like peas and carrots, so there was no way this was going to be bad. It's the longest of the 5 (at 5 minutes and 20 seconds) and it is also the greatest 5 minutes and 20 seconds you'll ever have, it's the sort of song that has everyone listening to it grinning in awe. I absolutly love it. No more can be said.. Just buy it and listen.

The soundtrack is also filled with other greats, the best of which is Disturbed's "Down with the Sickness". If you haven't heard it, take Korn's "Daddy" and replace the daddy with a Mother, and you've got the picture, it's classic. While every song is great, my other favourites are "Cold" by Static X, "Excess" by Tricky (which was also in "13 Ghosts"), "Penetrate" by Godhead and "Dead Cell" by Papa Roach. It's also good to have an awesome horror soundtrack without even One Rob Zombie song.. I never thought i'd see the day.

An all round classic soundtrack, that like the Crow movies and "Spawn", will probably vastly overshadow the film. It is without doubt, the greatest soundtrack i've ever heard.

despite never seeing the movie(yet), i heard that its soundtrack was really good. so i decided to check it out on amazon[.com] and download a couple of songs. after listening to them, i decided to go buy the soundtrack. it is awesome! all the songs are so excellent. unlike a lot of movie soundtracks, which jump from rock songs to pop songs to jazz songs, it sticks with one general type of music-hard rock. anyway, i will give you a quick rating of each song-

1. not meant for me-5/5

2. forsaken-5/5

3. system-5/5 FAV SONG! chester's voice is awesome!

4. change(in the house of flies)-kinda creepy vocals, but cool-4.5/5

5. redeemer-never been a big manson fan,but i like this song weird beginning-4.5/5

6. dead cell-not quite fitting for the soundtrack, but i like this song-4.5/5

7. penetrate-3.5/5

8. slept so long-5/5

9. down with the sickness-im not a big disturbed fan, either, but this song is pretty cool-4/5

10. cold-4.5/5

12. body crumbles-i originally downloaded a diff. version of this song. i love it, either way-5/5

overall, i kickass soundtrack! there is no bad song on this soundtrack..the songs that i gave 3.5s to might even be able to be 4s.i just havent listened to them enough yet. this cd has a dark vibe to it, obviously. i love it! i can listen to the whole thing without having to skip a song. definetly worth the money!

Wow... May I say that again? Wow... I have listened to this CD countless times since I bought it and... WOW! Jonathan Davis, the lead singer of Korn, has done an amazing job at writing five original songs for this beautiful vampiric film. The songs, featuring the talents of Marilyn Manson, Static-X, and the lead singers of Linkin Park, Orgy, and Disturbed, have their own vitality that brings to life ever aspect of this film. First, the film partially revolves around the music, which makes the soundtrack incredibly vital to the movie. Secondly, the music probes an area with amazing lyrics that is rarely ever written about - VAMPIRES! These are amazing songs, with fascinating vocal talents. The entire soundtrack has a very Gothic vibe to it, which I rather enjoy being a huge Marilyn Manson fan. The other tracks on "The Queen of the Damned" CD are amazing as well, and they fortunately don't muddle the life of the Jonathan Davis songs. Instead, they support the structure of the rest of the music, bringing it all together in one of the very best soundtracks that I think I have ever heard. It's absolutely amazing!!! Everything about this soundtrack is dark, decadent, horrific, and I love it!

I've always found it hard to imagine how the ancient Vampire Lestat would sound on the rock scene today... One would expect him to be like my mum shouting, "Turn that racket down! I can't hear myself think in here!" while he tunes in to some Mozart!

Jonathan Davis from KoRn and ex-Oingo Boingo musian, Richard Gibbs have certainly made a tremendous effort here with five brilliant songs "performed by The Vampire Lestat" himself (Not Meant For Me, Forsaken, System, Redeemer & Slept So Long).

We all hear Jon Davis's voice in the movie (while Stuart Townsend mimes), but due to contract problems his voice cannot be used on the CD itself. The perfect solution though, is to use some guest vocalists from other well-known rock bands, like Marilyn Manson, Linkin Park, Static-X etc. The results are quite stunning! (You will get the chance to hear Jon Davis's voice in full, with the MTV-style videos, on the DVD when it comes out)

Definitely the 5 Lestat songs are the best on this CD -'System' being my favourite, and my only complaint is that there aren't more Davis/Gibbs songs! I do however, love 'Change' by The Deftones, and 'Cold' by Static-X...
