Hex Angel is an atmospheric creepy crawly electro-industrial record from one of the genre's most beloved. V.A.C.'s latest outing sends up all that is expected of this veteran project. Loads of saw wave synthesis, techno-beats, overtly processed vocals and near-unending movie samples make for a formulaic effort that is primarily geared towards fans of old with little concession made for potential newbies. - C. Amazing... September 18, 2003 4 out of 7 found this review helpful
That word alone decribes these 11 tracks. This is a incredible album. I'm glad to see after about a 2 year break, VAC is still making good music. Definitely a must-have for any industrial fan.
First strong release from VAC October 24, 2003 4 out of 8 found this review helpful
I have never been much of a fan of Velvet Acid Christ, their programming, sampling and vocals have always been rather boring and nothing new. They were always the one band you could point to as an example of a typical band. With that said Hex Angel is by far better than anything they have ever done before. Its nothing ground breaking but its a good strong release which is something I never thought I would hear from VAC. For the first time I actually like their sampling, normally their sampling is cheesy and just horrid but I enjoyed it on Hex Angel. As a DJ this is a good CD to have, I find myself playing "Pretty Toy" (best track on the CD for a club) a lot, the rest of the CD is strong but is more of a personal liking than anything suited for a club. I know a lot of people who always rag on Velvet Acid Christ, if you were one of those people I would suggest giving this CD a fair listen, you might be surprised, I know I was!
good but VAC has done much better August 18, 2003 3 out of 5 found this review helpful
well, here we are again. a new release by VAC. i guess you could say this is a typical VAC release. over sampled, over distorted vocals, and songs about depression/rage,etc. this is a decent album with about 3 or 4 good tracks. some songs are just way too noisy sounding like an Ant Zen release. also, some of the vocals are drowned out and way too distorted to decipher. i did like some of the samples, there are just way too many of them. the songs are too similar to each other. VAC's Fun W/Knives, a masterpiece in my opinion, is the best VAC cd there is and will ever be. all the songs were different, very danceable, and still dark. after reading the cd jacket, Bryan aka VAC has grown bitter and very depressed. i seriously think he needs Prozac and therapy before he commits suicide. the main thing i didn't understand is how he dogs Futurepop music and artists Apoptygma Berzerk and VNV Nation, esp. since he thanked VNV on his last album Twisted Thought Generator.???? he does praise Covenant though. i'd like to see a side project between VAC and Covenant. that would be interesting. so as a whole, this is a decent effort. if you're a huge VAC fan, you'll probably like this cd. if you are new to VAC,buy Fun With Knives 1st,a definite 5 star cd. i own over 500 electronic cds. i can tell when an artist puts out a good album.i hope this helps. take care :)
Album of the year...VAC 's music is practically unrivaled August 20, 2003 3 out of 4 found this review helpful
I seriously want the entire world to know that upon listening to "Hex Angel (Utopia - Dystopia)," its become overwhelmingly clear to me that Velvet Acid Christ have reached a point where they are practically unrivaled in terms of musical talent and intensity...the new album has created soundscapes of such emotion, bleakness, and sheer power that it leaves you in this raw, broken down state...it just sits with you...sticks in your brain long after you've heard it...its like retreating into a shadow in the twilight of the sun...in the words of Bryan Erickson himself "i went deeper this time, because the scene (and my head) needed something deeper...we made a sonic and artistic vision that fuses itself together seemlessly."
