Its funny for a melodic metal fan like me to love this album so much. I found out about Raunchy on Nuclear Blast's "Death is Just the Beginning, Volume 7" CD. "Twelve Feet Tall" from their debut album Velvet Noise is towards the end of disc 1. After listening to this album, I would like to compare the music to a heavier In Flames meets the melodicness of Theatre of Tragedy's Assembly album. In other words, sure, the lyrics are very nu-metalish, which is what's all over America now (sad but true), BUT, keyboards in this, although industrial, are superior and make the music enjoyable even though you're hearing "suck my d***" in my 2 favorites songs.

So if you're into any kind of industrial music, nu-metal, death metal, or perhaps even melodic thrash metal, you just have to check this album out. The music is absolutely incredible. A few of my buddies from our school trip to Bermuda even didn't say this was that bad (and I played the album's fastest song (guess which one it is) for them). So... you're a Fear Factory, In Flames, Slipknot (God how it hurts to use that name in a review), Messugah, even - just give them a listen.

Speed? Well... first of all, I'll tell you that every song is at a different place on the `heaviness scale'. You can't possibly get bored listening to this album. However, the vocals are screamed - not sung, grunted, or growled (no female vocals). Okay, now onto speed. A lot of the songs are mid-tempo, and there's even one toward the end of the album that's borderline-ballad. A lot more of the songs are just past mid-tempo, which is a great speed for songs to sound different than one another. 9-5 and Insane are the album's fastest, but there's one or 2 others that are quite fast.

Musically, this is seriously one of my favorite albums! (Why can't the American bands do it this way???) I'm into Stratovarius, Helloween, Eternal Tears of Sorrow, Agathodaimon, Hyprocrisy, Skylark, Heavenly - those bands, and yet, I STILL enjoy this. Its not music to headbang to, but its still great.

I hope I helped you in deciding whether to or not purchase this (wonderful) album. If I helped, please say so! I have a lot of other reviews (and now, I have my own list here on amazon!), so read them when you get a chance. Type in "Tunnelvision" and you should get to the list.

what can I say. Raunchy is a great band. This album is a little bit different then their first album. It sounds more like their own sound rather then Fear Factory or Strapping Young Lad. I just have no idea how they are going to do now that their vocalist Lars have left the group. I wish them the best of luck and hope they get to tour the states soon. 5*****

What a crap fest, simply taking the "hit" off the album "9-5" you know its pure garbage. Bad songwriting coupled with EXTREMELY dumb vocals and lyrics sign this one off to the garbage heap. Since the rest of the album is either that bad or worse, skip this band and look for something else.

Im amazed with this band, theres is nothing bad to say about Raunchy, they sound great!all the band together works perfectly, the drumming is great, just perfect! Raunchy are very original, they can be very heavy and very tecnic.

5 out of 5 stars Great post-modern metal   August 29, 2004

It is evident that Raunchy is genuinely concerned with bringing metal into the 21st century with style, rather than poring over what was the norm some 20 or so years ago. Like lablemates Mnemic, they defy comparions with much of anyone, seamlessly incorporating familiar techniques of the metal trade with uncompromising innovation. Ironically enough, such a progressive approach may deter certain listeners who seem to like everything to sound the same forever sans change. Though Raunchy may be a relatively young band, this album exemplifies that they can certainly offer many old pros quite a few pointers on keeping the genre fresh and alive.
