The silence is broken and the truth is revealed! March 27, 2006 20 out of 22 found this review helpful
Type O Break a 3 year silence and unleash this long archived 1999 Bizzare fest concert. Many Type O fans have had this concert bootlegged for years, but none have had it in the amazing quality and presentation. I won't bother you with what they did play, but it was a set consisting of classics, however, due to copyrights and clearances, "Back In the USSR" and the "Day Tripper" medley were cut from this release, kinda stinks because they vow to never play the beatles medley live, the one time they do and they can't get the rights to include it. The concert features Behind the scenes footage during the concert, which is really funny, I think this if any will finally shed some light on the band's sense of humor which most fans seem to not even notice in the intense serious-ness of their music. The DVD also features an Interview with Juliya(formerly of Fuse TV) in which the band sit down to discuss the DVD, which kind of doesn't make sense, as well as discuss what really happened with Peter to bring upon the near 3 year silence, and it wasn't "Heart Problems" or a back Injury! The disc also includes a tasteful slideshow of pics of Type O from Chilhood through their teen years that goes by pretty fast and is kind of funny too see. Pretty good and well worth it for any major Type O Fan and might be well enjoyed by the casual fan as well, I'm giving this a 4.5.
A long awaited, must have for fans of the Drab Four March 16, 2006 9 out of 9 found this review helpful
Having seen the bootleg version of the 1999 show before, I kind of new what to expect as far as the actual concert footage goes. The set was the same as the bootleg minus "Back In The USSR" and a few other differences (like the song credits). The quality of this new version is amazing. The sound and video are top notch. Even if you have the bootleg, S.F.T.D is a must have for the upgrade in quality for the show alone. The 5.1 DD mix sounds incredible as is the cleaned up video.
Some may not like the show being interrupted by video footage shot by the band over the last few years but I dig it. You can always just hit "next" to skip back into the concert. The extra footage is pretty damn funny. I couldn't help but laugh out loud at some of the funny moments. I will admit that the video may not be for the squeemish at times, but it is funny none the less.
The extra interview featured in the bonus section is great fun as well. The guys look like they are having a lot of fun in the interview,(well, minus Josh but I love his final answer).
If you thought you got to know Type O Negative with the After Dark DVD, just wait until you watch S.F.T.D. By the end of just one viewing you will either be shaking your head in confusion, wiping the tears away from laughter, throwing up, or all of the above in unison. Thank you Type O for releasing something for the fans to hold us over until the next album. I can't wait to hear it.

This DVD titled "Symphony for The Devil" is a must have for fans of the band. The concert footage is excellent in quality and sound, and you get a lot of great hits from their catalog. Some great songs featured are Cinnamon girl, Everything Dies, Love you to death, and Christian woman just to name a few. The bonus audio CD is a nice touch to this overall set, featuring three songs including "Black Magic Woman". Seeing Peter Steel and his crew of dark maned musicians play some or my favorite songs of theirs in front of 90,000 people only makes me wish that I were there.
Bonus Features: I didn't give it five stars for the fact that there are a lot of things that some people are deeming "humorous" that I find could have been excluded from the video. I just don't understand what is with the jackass MTV approach at the behind the scenes part of the video. Do I want to see guys privates? No. Do I want to see this "Jeremy" person sitting nude on a toilet? If it was at least something to do more with the band I could understand, but this guy dancing around mocking street musicians over and over again was to me a big waste of time. When someone finally sits down to interview the band, it seems like they are trying to do anything to avoid the questions. Aside from telling past tales of a few tour-bus antics, I found a lot of it to be unproductive when actually trying to get into who these guys are, where they came from, and what inspires them when they write and perform these songs. The slideshow of photos from their childhood was a decent touch. The "Bio's" section was disappointing; doing everything it could to be as vague as possible. Perhaps they just want to remain a mystery! Again, I would have preferred more interviews and some insight from the band members themselves as opposed to this bald roadie (whatever he is) stuffing grapes in his rectum. My disappointment with the approach of outtakes and some of the special features is not by any means, however, to overshadow the greatness of this band, their music, and the powerful performance they gave in the concert that is shown on this DVD.

Good music, poor editing March 15, 2006 5 out of 6 found this review helpful
I love type o negative. I saw them live right after bloody kisses was released, and they are still an amazing live band. The song list is great, keeping classics with the newer stuff. The music is always a five stars, and the mix was descent for a live show. However, the dvd is drawn out by unamusing interludes of behind the scenes childish mischief. It's not funny nor original, and I feel rooked (and at some points actually sick to my stomach) for having that filler in there. They needed to just keep to the onstage footage with more angles and crowd shots. The bonus CD of the Santana Medley is a big let down as well. It's only just over 6 minutes long, hardly worth the pressing. But, it is a must have for type o negative followers. So, in closing, see if you can get this for as cheap as possible, not more than 15 or 16 bucks please. Any other price you will be getting ripped off.
