1 out of 5 stars Someone give this band a pillow. They are tired.   July 28, 2007

I cannot believe half of the reviews for this or for Navigator.
I have been following the bad since the beginnings and thought them to be one of the fresh new faces of the genre. A band that will represent the new generation of "industrial" after such greats as Front 242, Frontline Assembly, Ministry etc.

I think their first two albums were new and innovating. Live they bought the house down and the crowds went ballistic. But I believe the band peaked with Machine Zeit. If anything buy that album instead of the recent two.

I do not understand what others are saying when they say "great production, hasn't left my cd player yet or lots of potential dance tracks"

This and Navigator is nothing but a bunch of repititious rubbish. If this was 1996 this album would be brilliant. Same tired lyrics which some do not even make sense, same beats, drum tracks etc. And the production is horrible or should I say horrible for something to be released in 2007.

Sadly it seems this genre does not know how to get out of the cliches it has built. When bands do tend to go beyond the dark or military lyrics etc they are ridiculed as sell outs.

When Front 242 started to take on that techno sound in 98' people ridiculed them. People just want that same tired formula that made them popular. But at least they took the risk to express themselves in other ways.

I am glad I bought this cd used and am glad there are two so my girlfriend and I can use them as drink coasters as its summer and we are drinking a lot of cold water lately.

For a music that is technology based and technology ever changing I thought when I got in to this music way back when that I would never tire of it. I only imagined what it would be like in 2007. How disillusioned I was.

4 out of 5 stars Niche music for Funkervogt   June 12, 2007

Aviator sits right cozy in FV's niche, just as Navigator and Survivor do. So much that it's really hard to tell them apart from each other. Aviator does have some dancable tracks..and then, so do the others. And to tell you the truth, if I weren't so familiar with the other albums, I would probably be very impressed with this album, for that, I'll give it a 4.

I would recommend for the band to diverisfy a bit - divert yourselves away from that cozy niche you've created for yourselves and take us offguard once again, like you did with Maschine Zeit!

4 out of 5 stars The soundtrack to a warzone.   September 8, 2007

Let me just start off by saying that I am a huge fan of (almost) everything Funker Vogt has done. I am familiar with all of their albums and consider this to be a very good addition to their works. As many other people have pointed out, it seems to take on the same style as Navigator and Survivor-- I happen to think that style is very good. Much industrial music isn't danceable, and I feel such great rhythms in this album, without being too poppy. I believe Survivor was their best effort so far, but this is definitely above average- not a dissappointment. 4 stars because I didn't like it at first- it took a while until I realized how much I liked certain songs. It's in the details.

I also like the vocals, although many people complain about them. I think it fits with FV's overall style, which is more aggressive than something like, say, VNV. But FV does have the melodies to back up the otherwise aggressive music. It's well-done, well-produced, and a pleasure to listen to. Only complaint is that nothing stood out terribly.

1. Welcome to Destruction - A cool introduction. Nice beat.
2. Paralyzed - Danceable and has some good parts, although not a standout. 3/5
3. Child Soldier - Lyrics are kind of weird, but gets points for having that creepy touch that FV does so well. Again, very danceable. 4/5
4. City of Darkness - Another dark dance track, with a slightly boring and repetitive chorus, although other parts of the song are great, reminiscent of Navigator. 4/5
5. My Fortune - Creepy and dark, another one of the best tracks. Love the subtlety on this track, it's the little sounds like the bells at the end that really get me. 5/5
6. Hostile Waters - Best track. Bildup at the beginning is great, vocals are minimal, which is nice. Very, very dark. 5/5
7. Thanataphobia - Blasts you in the face from the beginning. Over-agressiveness is a plus. Otherwise, doesn't have much interesting to offer. Verses are dull. 2/5
8. Frozen in Time - Probably filler. The one track that isn't great to dance to. Nothing interesting. 2/5
9. One - Has a cool thing going from the beginning, but never picks it up again. Good energy though. 4/5
10. Darwin's Nightmare - Good for stomping.. some good sounds. Okay. 3/5
11. Blind Rage - GREAT. Very, very futuristic. Some excellent synths in there that FV has never used before. 5/5
12. Babylon - Main riff is great, lots of good industrial sounds thrown in there. Ends with a creepy echo, perfect. 4/5

One thing I've noticed about these songs is that many of them have boring verses that sound like they're just waiting around for the chorus to come. I guess that's to be expected.

This album is a mixture of tortured vocals, creepy melody lines and very full backing synths- some of the best DANCE music FV has ever put out. Doesn't give you a break. Overall, it's very, very dark and creepy, more so that other albums they've put out. There really isn't a light touch to this album - the whole time you listen, you will feel like you're fighting in some crazy techno-war. And I think that's exactly what Funker Vogt had in mind.

Another great album by the ever so political/Industrial/EBM band Funker Vogt! This edition is a 2CD, both are verry good. I think this is one of thier absolute best albums yet. Great production and lots of pottential club hits for people who like to dance to this kind of music. A good album to buy if your a fan of modern day Frontline Assembly.

for the lovers of electronic, and ebm , a very good Cd ; in pure style Funker Vogt !
We are to the same level of previous "Navigator", the best track is "City of Darkness" being involved, with nice lyric and much powerful ! the other track is good and rich of rhythm.
