5 out of 5 stars Black Butterfly   September 16, 2008

Buckcherry-Black Butterfly *****

To begin with, Black Butterfly is the bands best and strongest and most consistent album since their 1998 self titled debut album. Finding a nice balance between the overly produced and popish sounds of their previous album 15, and the hard rocking almost metal of their first two albums Buckcherry, and Time Bomb. Black Butterfly is the bands most concise album to date. While a eerie feeling tells me this won't sell very well, it still is a killer album.

'A Child Called It' and the album opener 'Rescue Me' are both inspired by the book A Child Called It. This shows growth for the L.A. rockers. Serious subject matters for Todd was previously getting high and laid. 'Too Drunk..' is classic Buckcherry and the guitar work from Keith Nelson and Steve D is incredible here and through out the album. 'Dreams' is what they have been trying to capture on songs like 'Babe' and 'Sorry' but just feel short of the mark until now.

The same sex, drugs, and rock n' roll we have come to know from Buckcherry is here but they seem to have matured where most L.A. bands hit ruts. Buckcherry is one of the strongest rock n' roll bands around today and Black Butterfly just might be their strongest album yet.

3 out of 5 stars Buckcherry's fourth album, Black Butterfly   September 16, 2008

Let me start out with this: I've been a fan of the band since the beginning, and own all albums. My favorite is 2001's Time Bomb, but I also love both their debut and comeback 15. Buckcherry is a raw, controversial, and in your face band, unlike any other band of this age except for JET, and much like AC/DC, Guns N' Roses, Van Halen, and the other greats before them. I've seen them live, and am a big supporter.

This album is so commercially slick by Buckcherry's standards its almost scary. A few songs here are amazing, such as Rescue Me, Too Drunk..., Dreams, Don't Go Away, and Imminent Bail Out. The rest of the album is absolute filler. Its sad, and I think its just a reflection of the current music industry in general. Also, don't expect the guitar extravaganza that you heard on Time Bomb or 15--- this one lacks any amazing guitar solos from Keith and Stevie. The album also sounds extremely generic, as I think the band is trying to live up to the success of 15.

Because of this, Black Butterfly is the band's weakest attempt yet. The other three albums are amazing, and I just was really hoping this one would follow suit.

5 out of 5 stars GREAT ALBUM!!   September 16, 2008

These Los Angeles rockers delivered a great follow up to their platinum 2006 album. With heavy guitars, amazing riffs and unbelievable hooks, Buckcherry puts other rockers to shame. Bad boy frontman Josh Todd, hasn't lost his edge at all and further proves that he has one of the best voices in rock. My favorite tracks would have to be "Child Called It", "Cream", and of course "Too Drunk".

1 out of 5 stars JUST PLAIN BORING!   September 22, 2008

I really like many of Buckcherry's tunes and own 15 and Time Bomb. Unfortunately they offer absolutely nothing new on this album. No inovative beats, lyrics, themes, nothing! Everything I liked about some of their work is missing here and every thing they have done to death before is present yet again. Buckcherry has talent and a nice sound. They can do much better than this, starting with getting a new song writer. Mind numbingly inane! Skip this album.

5 out of 5 stars Great classic rock!   September 17, 2008

Few rock CDs sell platinum anymore. Buckcherry's last one did, and this one will too. There's no secret to it. Great songs and a great sound. Classic.

Don't judge this album by Too Drunk. Though Too Drunk is the first single, there are several other songs that are much better.
