i absoultely love this cd. especially tims voice. the drums are produced perfect and jordan can really slam that double bass. the guitars perform far beyond par and the melodic breakdowns catch my ear everytime. this is one of my personal favs. anyone who liked their first cd will love this one. and their new cd "shadows are security" is coming out in june. i cant wait
Poser metalcore garbage October 27, 2004 6 out of 17 found this review helpful
If you want a band that all the posers and kids that know jack about metalcore love I strongly urge you to listen to As I Lay Dying. The facts: this band is a really bad screamo/christian metalcore band. The growling by the lead singer is pathetic, he's trying to sound death metal but he fails on so many levels it's not even funny. This singer's whiny emo voice is the most annoying thing ever. If you want a band that mixes lyrics ranging from topics as :I love god, and my high school girlfriend dumped me because I'm a christian hardcore kid loser then I suggest you pick this up. Bottom line: this CD doesn't even come close to brutal, and this band is not original in the least bit. Metal Blade Records should be ashamed to have released this, the only thing worse than this will be the new As I Lay Dying CD which will be total pop rock emo garbage. Premonitions of War, On Broken Wings, The Red Chord, The Black Dahlia Murder, Terror, All Out War, Merauder those are some real core bands. If you love As I lay Dying you probably think Atreyu and New Found Glory are "the hottest acts around right now". ha ha
Just a bunch of posers trying to change metal April 16, 2005 6 out of 12 found this review helpful
alright the drummer is good so I'll give em' that but then again slipknot has a good drummer and they suck. this style is not only one of the biggest trends right now in America but the most disgraceful in the metal department. Stupid p*ssy vocals with growling, stupid chugachugachuga breaksdowns and overall this metalcore movement is rehashed gothenberg melodeath but with an extremely mediocre sound even 80s' hairbands had more talent and originality than this crap ah even the style is pathetic as hell just look at the hairdos they have. Dave Mustaine of Megadeth was once asked "what do you think about glam rock" his response:"gay L.A. music" now in these modern times I can only paraphrase that statement to apply to this metalcore sh*t "GAY O.C. MUSIC!!"
Frail Words Collapse August 26, 2005 6 out of 9 found this review helpful
Frail Words Collapse is As I Lay Dying's second album, though it's they're first on Metal Blade Records. Simply put, This album contains Intense metalcore breakdowns with ferrocious screams. All that and it still manages to send a positive message with spiritual, beatuifully written lyrics. This is for sure a must buy.
xx
A new favorite February 4, 2004 4 out of 5 found this review helpful
I can't stress the greatness of this CD. For starters it's a death metal group, so the songs sound somewhat alike but if you're like me and am a hardcore music listener you'll probably pick out the differences eventually. I guess I'll do a run down of the songs. 1.94 Hours- their single and an excellent song, about a minute and a half in there is an awesome guitar/drum combo. And I ask myself how can the drum player play double bass like that? 2.Falling Upon Deaf Ears-A decent song, nothing really stands out but it was enjoyable. No complaints here. 3.Forever-Excellent song, I just love the chorus, this song is on the Headbanger's ball Album. Fast and it sticks. 4.Collision-Not sure what to say here except a fantastic song, very good lyrics (but of course they all have excellent lyrics) 5.Distance is Darkness-Basically the only song with "clean vocals" it's short, and the sort of punk sounding vocals at the end add the right touch to the song. 6.Behind me lies another fallen Soldier-Starts off slow but of course gets heavy. About giving everything for someone. 7.Undefinded-One of my favorites, starts off heavy and sorta has the same sound as a few of the others but about 1 or so in he screams "I long for this wind to cease" and they break down into one of the most badass riffs I've ever heard. Keeper 8.A thousand steps-This is a prett good song, it's short and simple. 9.The Beginning-Another favorite, I like the sort of punk guitar beginning and then switching to a rock sort of riff and overall it just works. I kept saying to myself "wow what is the name of this song?" 10.Song 10-Probably the lightest song on the album. The first 2 and a half minutes is instrumental and then it explodes with Tim screaming. A favorte. 11.The Pain of Separation- This song is good, has a few good riffs but other than that it's like the others. Some of the guitar sounds like System of Down :O 12.Elegy-Another favorite, the song starts out and continues throughout the 5 minutes with excellent guitar and drums. Couldn't get this song out of my head.Overview-This CD is top notch, if you don't mind a few of the same sounding things. But if you like this you'll forget about it and the music will just flow in. So Buy this CD.
