Nightwish : "From Wishes To Eternity - Live" January 29, 2005 13 out of 14 found this review helpful
***** - FIVE STARS --------------------
This DVD smokes. Nightwish is clearly on top of their game when they play live, and this perfromance is one of the best I've ever seen. You can't compare Evanescence's live DVD "Anywhere...." to this. Not even close. Nightwish makes Evenescence look like a garage band when it come to playing live in my opinion. I like Evanescence, but they're just rookies as far as I'm concerned....
This is also much better than Nightwish's othere DVD "End Of Innocence". This is a more mature, a more focused Nightwish. They've made the leap, and I'm very impressed with their product on stage. I wasn't expecting it to be this good. Awesome....
I also recently purchaced The Gathering's live DVD "In Motion", and they also are one of the very best live Goth Metal bands around. I was blwon away with how good The Gathering are. I can't decide which DVD I enjoy more. Both are incredible, and a must purchace for anyone who listens to Goth....
Hopefully, Lacuna Coil will follow the live DVD trend, and release a live DVD of their own. I think after they see this performance by Nightwish, which I'm sure they arleady have, they'll be so impressed, they'll want to do one as well. I can't wait, as they are my favorite Goth Metal band. Nightwish and the Gahering are both a close second...
LACUNA LEGIONS!!!!!
In Reference to Tarja's "Lipsinking" December 14, 2006 6 out of 6 found this review helpful
I've had this DVD for well over a year and love it! It's definitely not one of those I've bought just to have, listened to it immediately after purchasing, and have left it on the shelf ever since. My main reason for posting, though, is not only to show support, but suggest an opposing view for those that believe Tarja is lipsinking: I ask for everyone to keep in mind that Tarja is not a native, English speaker. She speaks Finnish. When she does speak (not sing, but speak) English, her accent is thick, her pronunciation is inaccurate, and her syllabic-emphasis is not usually correct. I, for one, see nothing wrong with this, I don't mind reading subtitles in order to preserve the authentic nature of the situation and have thoroughly studied and been naturally emmersed in not only a second, but also third a language, therefore, I identify with her difficulties. At any rate...when Tarja sings, you may notice her cheeks, lips, and / or jaw moving extraneously. I re-iterate: Tarja Turunen is not a native, English speaker, she's not even highly proficient. Having studied both linguistics and music, I know that in order for a vocalist to enunciate properly AND maintain pitch and tone while singing, one must alter, emphasize, and overdo the oral requirements of speech in reference to whatever language in which they sing, thus resulting in the above mentioned extraneous motions of the lower-facial area, surrounding the mouth and nose.
I'm not trying to be a smartass, I'm trying to avoid damage to an artist's reputation by possibly mis- or uninformed remarks and assumptions of the public. Unless one has proof of the lipsinking, I would not assume, publish, or accuse, being as Tarja Turunen is a native Finnish speaker, formally trained in operatic vocal styles, thus lending herself toward kinesthetic habits of enunciation. Please consider this before spreading word that she has falsely performed on DVD!

TAKING POWER METAL TO THE NEXT LEVEL AND BEYOND June 9, 2006 4 out of 4 found this review helpful
This is one of the most incredible & most important metal dvds I have ever seen. It brings A grace and aret to the form and it is an absolute wonder to behold. For those who say there is lip synching on this dvd either are to stoned out of their minds or their dvd players are in desperate need of repair. This DVD is a MUST have i cannot speak highly enough of this wounderful band the songwrighting the , musicianship and especailly the singing is SPOT on. IT will absolutely blow you away. Nightwish does have a new DVD/CD comb combo coming out (if you are lucky enough to grab a copy) called "THE END OF AN ERA" it marks the final performance with the original lead singer Tarja as the parted ways at the end of that very show. ut now doubut From Wishes TO Eternity is again a MUST have as the the performance is one that I will gaurentee you will NEVER forget. One can only hope that in a few years after things settle down a bit and egos can be set aside that this wounderful band can reform with Tarja and continue the MAGIC that is Nightwish.....DO NOT MISS THIS....
A great DVD by a great band December 30, 2002 3 out of 3 found this review helpful
Nightwish is among my favorite bands, and I guess its because I never heard any band that had an opera singer like Tarja in it. The concert shown on here is excellent; the set list has a little bit of everything from their albums (with the exception of the newer one). There are also numerous other special features, such as interviews with some of the band members, two music videos, a photo album, some more footage from different concerts, and other stuff. Its a definate buy for fans of the band, and possibily anyone interested in Nightwish.
