Th Masters are Back! April 24, 2005 4 out of 5 found this review helpful
Just Like the singer Nick Holmes said a few moths ago, this's the finest Gothic Metal album that you will find out there. PL self tiltle album is not just the best Paradise Lost album ever, yes it's definitely the best Gothic Metal album ever made, imagine the Clasic Draconian Times with a moder edge, Produced once again by the great Rhys Fulber of Delerium, and Front Line Assembly fame. After many years of big musical experimentation, they decided to go back to their roots "Metal'' and what a way to do it. Now that Erope is full of a big amount of popular good Goth Metal bands like Lacuna Coil, Nightwish and Moonspell, Paradise Lost have returned to leed the pack once again with this Dark masterpice, Great music compositions and their most brilliant production yet , this album is destined to become a Clasic, Nick's voice has never sound better and Greg's music has never been so intense and hunting, sometimes i wonder how can these guys come out with such an amazing dark music with so much Catchines?, for example the track called "Causes Of Laws" has to be one of the best Goth metal songs ever recorded. i can't understand why these guys are not one of the biggest bands in the world yet, let's say when you see for example bands like Korn or Disturbed trying to sound goth, it's terrible. Paradise Lost is definitely way better than any of this popular numetal stuff out there, it's almost a shame, but anyway, what can we do? that's how mediocre our world is becoming no? buy this album and expect to listen to the best Hard Goth music out there by one the best Goth Rock bands ever, the fathers of Gothic Metal..... Paradise Lost.
One of the best metal ever January 24, 2006 3 out of 3 found this review helpful
This album is one of PL's best along with Icon and Draconian Times. It is even more diverse and better sounding than Draconian Times, in my opinion.
This is definately to be destined a classic. One of the best rock albums ever.
I was very pleasantly surprised as you dont see bands like this to go better than their best stuff in 10 years, but unlike The Cure they have managed to prove the opposite. Great work! A rock masterpeice!
The problem is that the big a** recording compoanies will not promote it and the world will never hear about it until years to come. It's OK since I dont care about stupid people's opinions.
P.S. You can still buy it cheaper from overstock, where amazon in order to compete have dropped the price. Anyway, the price is totally deserved bc u get what you pay for.
Still one of the best August 22, 2006 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
My introduction to Paradise came back with the release of Draconian Times. In a time when I was deeply into the gut-rot sounds of death metal bands such as Cannibal Corpse this band pointed out to me that you can be just as dark without the growls or incantations over the headphones. In time they expanded their sound, incorporating some electronics into the mix until they arrived at their latest album. The self titled album simply blew me away... The last album I had picked up from them was "One Second" which started to show the new face of the band. It seems they have gotten just that much better. Every track leads well into one another starting with Don't Belong, a somber track that points out the seeming effortlessness that this band seems to have when writing great music. Grey stands out as one of my personal favorites... a good beat and wonderful melody accompanied by dark yet engaging vocals. However my absolute favorite track is "Red Shift" which has a perfect mix of heavy guitar, perfect beat, and picture perfect singing. The album was so good I ended up picking up "Symbol of Life" immediately after and was equally pleased. Simply put... anyone looking to pick up an album that evokes a somber mood while keeping a great beat should pick this one up!
best cd yet! April 15, 2005 1 out of 2 found this review helpful
This is the best release that P.L. have done yet. The songwriting and flow of the album are perfect. I cant keep this out of my cd player. Amazing work!
Heavy!! June 10, 2005 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
As-I live in the United States I was unfimiliar with PL. I came across them from a recommendation on this site. After visiting their website I enjoyed what I have heard. (forever after video) So I ordered this cd quickly from the net. I am very pleased with this cd. This is a cd you can play from beginning to end without skipping one song. Which is very rare as of late. Nice-heavy tunes that gets your blood pumping.
I look forward to their other stuff except their death metal cd's. (gothic, shades of god and lost paradise) My quest for more PL begins. As-I have become a Fan.
