Phenomenal !!! November 9, 2005 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
Embark on a voyage into the dark and mysterious lands of Transylvania, where the children of the night do indeed make beautiful music. This cd will haunt you, thrill you and at times chill you to the bone. The compositions range from eerie piano melodies of "Nocturne" and "Gossamer Mist" to the to the pipe organ refrains of "Castle Dracula" and the brooding orchestrations and chanting that fill "Night of the Wolf." "Grande Masquerade" and "Gothic Sanctum" will more than satisfy any dark music lover's classical appetite, while "Gypsy Caravan" has a mystical percussive rhythm that is musically hypnotic. Several creepy vocal interludes accent the story to further immerse you in this macabre and shadowy realm. Creatures of the night howl at the full moon and unearthly voices of sentinel gargoyles warn trespassers away while the whispers of Dracula's brides lure the listener deeper into the lair of the vampire. This is a phenomenal cd that is the perfect soundtrack to any dark soul's gothic dreams or nightmares.
Atmosphere Galore! January 2, 2006 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
This is one of the best Gothic CD's out there. Nox Arcana brings music to Stoker's novel in a beautiful atmospheric combination that is sure to delight and transport the listener. Definately buy this..its not just for Halloween.
Dracula rises again... January 7, 2006 2 out of 3 found this review helpful
Within a black coach, travel down the dark oak-arched path into the world of the timeless Dracula legend, unto infamous Transylvania, where nightmares come alive down torch-lit halls, and cobwebbed doors are opened to reveal blood-soaked horrors lain hidden for centuries.
Within the ornate booklet are depicted our musickal hosts: Joseph Vargo's Baphomet medallion bodes well with the chalice held as if in an indulgent toast, and William Piotrowski sports a splendid wolf's head cane. The rest of the diatribe features artistry and quotes from Van Helsing and Jonathan Harker, which combines in a psychodramatic narrative enhancing the overall creation.
'Transylvania' is a wonderfully dramatic musickal escapade into the imagination of Bram Stoker and Nox Arcana combined, providing a most remarkable soundtrack to the classic tale. Another magnificent opus to accompany one's nocturnal activities, empowering the atmosphere by candlelight and incense's curl. This musickal release calls to mind masquerade balls, elegant accoutrement, and noble opulence in all of its splendor, certainly complimenting one's own haunted Manor.
Yet another great album! August 11, 2006 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
Nox Arcana is truly a original band for the era. The music is never boring and you always find something new when listening to it that you may not have heard before. Vargo is a very gifted artist in all the work he does and I for one am glad he formed his own band. The creative work behind the cd's really comes through not just in the music but in the album designs. Midnight Syndicate lost one of the most creative person's behind their success, but by starting the band Nox Arcana at least none of the fans are suffering. Keep up the great work and I look forward to the next album.
Creates a relaxing atmospehere March 15, 2006 1 out of 2 found this review helpful
This type of music was totally new to me. It is not generally available where I live. To be honest, Amazon introduced me to this (using their "people that also bought this, also bought"-list). I am VERY grateful for these lists Amazon provide, as I depend on these lists on many occasions when odering! With this order I bought Transylvania (N.A.), the Thirteenth Hour (Midnight Syndicate), Winter's Night (N.A.), as well as Will and Testament (Diamanda Galas). From the current reviews I thought these products to be more or less within the same style. Nope. Diamanda Galas is obviously on a class of her own- definitely for the more serious and dramatic listener. It is just not appropriate or fare to compare her with the other 2 artists. Between Midnight Syndicate and Nox Arcana I found a higher affinity for the latter. More or less within the the same style, people that like the Gregorian/Spirit-type of music, will very much appreciate this cd, and others of the same artist. It is highly relaxing, no-taxing, book-in-the-hand or head-on-the-pillow music. A glass of red wine goes well with the background created by a mixture of very interesting sounds. This cd will not be liked by all, but is definitely a must-have for those that have to pick from the lists- don't think twice, take this one first!
