Surprisingly Good July 15, 2007 0 out of 2 found this review helpful
First off, let me say it...I hate American Idol. I mean absolutely hate it. To me, it is proof that talent and success are indeed mutually exclusive to each other. With that out of the way, let's get to the review. I had heard Chris Daughtry' s name through all of the incessant coverage that "Idol" inexplicably gets, and heard that he had covered songs by Creed and Fuel and a had a sound similar to Nickelback. I found this to be a good thing, which I suppose betrays my total lack of musical taste or knowledge. I mean, he was obviously emulating a bunch of no-talent hacks who couldn't give their CD's away, as opposed to these "smart" reviewers whose name EVERYBODY knows. Word of mouth prompted me to download "It's Not Over" and give it a try. Believe it or not, I liked it and decided to purchase the CD. Much to my surprise, I liked it, I really really liked it! Not every single song is memorable, and some of them do tend to sound a bit "same-y", but you can get that with any artist. This disc does have many shining moments, and when they shine, brother they SHINE. Daughtry manages to hold the listener's attention across a variety of styles, which broadens his appeal. Softer, strummed ballads? Got 'em. Wanna rock out? Got those too. All in all. a solid debut.

Daughtry has a raw sound to his voice that seems to get to us all. His music is fresh and the sound is great. I loved him on idol and think he should have won. There is something about this album that makes you feel you've heard these songs before, it is just comfortable- like the songs have always been out there.
Fantastic! September 3, 2007 I bought his CD for probably the same reason everyone else does. Daughtry was on American Idol and he was good. Well, he is even better on this CD. He makes you forget he was part of that whole smaltzy idol thing and pumps out some really good stuff.
The best American Idol debut yet July 15, 2007 0 out of 2 found this review helpful
Who knew an obscure contestant from season 5 of American Idol would top the billboard chart and sell millions of copies? I didn't really watch season 5 because I had doctors appointments around the same time that American Idol started! In fact at first I had no idea Chris Daughtry was even on American Idol at first. This is really a great album. You can tell bands like Nickleback and Stained are influences as he has a pop-rock feel to this album. I have to say my favorite song is "Over You", the group's latest single. I listened to all the songs on youtube and felt satisfied from listening to them. Now I want to buy the album! I just very well may after listening to the songs so many times. Daughtry himself really does have a rockish voice. It's well-suited to the type of music he sings, from the rocker "It's Not Over" to the hit single "Home." This is definately my favorite American Idol album. He doesn't try too hard to appear one way or another. He's just himself and I applaud him for that. I also had no idea who Slash was but I enjoyed the song feauturing him on it. If you liked him on American Idol you won't be dissapointed with this album. I certainly wasn't.
