Broken promises . . . . November 25, 2006 14 out of 31 found this review helpful
I am so bummed about this CD. If you are a fan of his Absent Element stuff, you will be really disappointed in this CD, at least I am - even Slash couldn't save him. Such a waste of an incredible voice and talent. It is just really different - more like stuff that they would play on American Idol - very safe and no personality. On a few of the songs, I couldn't tell if he was making a country song or a rock song. He even managed to ruin "Breakdown," (a song on his Absent Element CD) and totally mellowed it out. "There and Back Again" was pretty good and almost made me give this CD 2 stars, but I couldn't cause I want to know: WHERE'S THE ROCK AT CHRIS? I thought he promised us edgy stuff? Guess that stuff doesn't sell as well to the general public. If anyone wants a free CD - email me and I'll mail you mine for free.
Excellent debut by Daughtry! November 21, 2006 13 out of 18 found this review helpful
He has completely exceeded my expectations with this incredible debut! He has proved that he is much bigger than Idol, and was meant to be a musician who can make some rockin' and beautiful music! His tracks are all different. Some are more mainstream rock, some heavy rock, and some good old power ballads, there is something for everyone!! My favorites are Home, What About Now, and Breakdown, and Over You! But I love all the tracks, also make sure you check out the acoustic versions of "Home" and "Crashed", as they are great as well. If you are a fan of rock, you will not be disappointed!! He will be up there with the great ones!
WOW! I can't listen to anything else!! What an amazing talent! November 21, 2006 13 out of 17 found this review helpful
In a world where we have to censor what we allow little ears to hear, how refreshing that DAUGHTRY has a CD that even my children love and can listen to without worry. My children are among the fans Chris refers to as "HARDCORE"!!
I have been listening to the previews even before the CD was released and find myself needing to hear just one more song before I sign off, which is a wonderfully vicious cycle that keeps repeating itself! EVERY song on the CD is just amazing, with enough variety to entertain any type of music lover!!
While I love "It's Not Over" it is not even the best song on the CD to me, Daughtry offers so much more. From the rocking edgy tunes "Crashed", "There and Back Again" and "What I Want"...to the softer side of DAUGHTRY as you listen to "Home" and "What About Now" that showcase Chris' true vocal ability(NO ONE TRICK PONY ON THIS CD!!!). But my absolute favorite is BREAKDOWN, what an amazing song! I can't get enough!
Thank you so much DAUGHTRY for giving us a CD to be excited about!!! I wonder if even Chris knows just how talented he is?(He'd say, "Only when you tell me!" LOL!!) It was worth the wait, but I am so glad "It's Not Over", it's only beginning.
DAUGHTRY ROCKS!!!
Didn't blow me away. November 22, 2006 13 out of 29 found this review helpful
A couple months ago I read an interview with Chris Daughtry, and he said his album would be so hard-core rock that only a couple songs could be played on the radio. Give me a break! The only thing that makes this album different from a Backstreet Boys CD is Chris' unique voice. However, his voice on the CD shows no range. Every song has the same sound with the same vocals. I liked him better on American Idol.
Great freshman album from up and coming artist November 25, 2006 13 out of 18 found this review helpful
I've never watched AI before, and that goes the same for this last season, but have a friend, Tony, who has this CD (he's familiar with Chris' original band, Absent Element, and had actually seen them play throughout the last few years, prior to AI, around Greensboro, NC. Anyway, my friend, who is into HEAVY alt music and loves AE, was given Chris' CD as a gift from his girlfriend just a few days ago, something he probably never would have purchased for himself as he anticipated it would disappointment him. Now, my friend is no stranger to the music industry and accepted that Chris would have to compromise on his first CD by making it accessible to more markets than his traditional roots in alternative music, but he was surprised at how much he liked the album. This same friend then suggested I consider purchasing it as well. He knew that, like him, I'm not fond of Nickelbach, Fuel, Matchbox 20, or Live, but he wanted to get my take on it. Surprisingly, and I say surprisingly, I find myself really liking this album. Do I favor the hard rock cuts on this CD (There and Back Again, What I want, and Crashed), of course, and it showcases this guys amazing talent and vocals, but, with a few exceptions, the other songs are solid too. Are they more pop/rock with a somewhat overproduced background, perhaps, at least on an initial listen, but the more you play the CD the less you notice that distraction, and Chris' vocals are painstakingly highlighted. For a freshman album, this is extremely impressive, especially for someone from AI. Irrespective of some of the lower scores received here, which seem suspiciously generic and over generalized, you need to do yourself a favor and give this CD a try. I suspect you will not be disappointed.
