Great Rock Album!! November 25, 2006 13 out of 20 found this review helpful
Chris got his start with his 4th place finish on Idol. And I am so glad he did not win. If he finished in the top 2, he would of been forced by Idol to make a Pop album, and they would not of used any songs Chris wrote. Finishing 4th, he was able to negotiate a deal, and the result is this fantastic rock album. Chris wrote or co-wrote 10 of the 12 songs! He truly is an artist!! This album has great variety!!
1. "It's Not Over" The First single. Great title of song and great lyrics. This song is growing on me. Good first pick. It has a rock edge with a good radio melody on it. Other Idols have proven radio play helps album sales, so I am hopeful this a perfect start.
2. "Used To" I think this is a similar song to Track 1 "It's Not Over." It has a very good rock edge to it and sing along lyrics.
3. "Home" My favorite track, hopefully a future single. It is strong ballad with great lyrics and Chris sings with great emotion.
4. "Over You" Similar to track 1 and track 2. Chris is great in writing rock songs with lyrics people can relate to and sing along to.
5. "Crashed" Good song. Some ballad in it, some rock edge into. Good to listen to.
6. "Feels Like Tonight" One of the two songs Chris did not write. This is a slower pace, kinda of tender, ballad. I like this type of song and Chris really shows his great singing ability and tone in this song.
7. "What I Want" with Slash: This is the hardest rocking song on the album. Chris is really showing variety. He does kind of seem like yelling the lyrics at times, but that is okay. This song is all rock. Slash(from Guns-n-Roses and Velvet Revolver{Get their album!!!}) really jams in this song. I bet Chris had a blast recording this song. It is great all these big names are helping Chris! Rockers like Chris, because he can rock out!!
8. "Breakdown" There is something unique about this song I really like. This is a song Chris wrote for his first rock group, Absent Element, but he changes it a little bit. Chris sounds serious in this song, rocks out, sings emotional....just a very well done song.
9. "Gone" Probably my least favorite song, but that says alot because this is still a very good song. Typical rock song.
10. "There And Back Again" Co-wrote with Brent Smith from Shindown(GET BOTH OF THEIR ALBUMS!!!): The 2nd biggest hard rock on this album. Great guitar riffs, great sing along lyrics! Top notch song!
11. "All These Lives" Good rocker song. Hard rockers may like this one. It actually is an emotionally powerful song about child abduction I think. Wow Chris, way to go!!
12. "What About Now" Very good ballad with very enjoyable piano music. The other song Chris did not write. Chris can sing!! One of my favorite tracks. Chris can rock with the best of them, but I like it when he slows it down a little bit and the tone of his voice shines!!!
very mediocre. November 26, 2006 13 out of 26 found this review helpful
I am shocked seeing all of these 5 star reviews. THIS CD IS VERY BORING. I wouldn't waste your money on it. It actually reminds me of The Real Thing by Bo Bice, except even more boring. Sounds like a Nickelback Clone.
Last Gasp for the Emo Rock Genre? January 9, 2007 13 out of 20 found this review helpful
Dull, predictable and over-wrought, this post American Idol runner-up is without originality or perspective. Chris's influences are so obvious, it begs the question, do we even need to hear him? He brings nothing new to the table, and has no musical depth beyond the very immediate emo rock genre. His sound is so `now', it's practically too late! He doesn't move forward, and he doesn't have enough depth in musical knowledge to make any sort of independent statement. It may be selling, but word to the wise Chris, save your money!
One of the best CDs I have heard in a long time! November 21, 2006 11 out of 15 found this review helpful
Chris was one of my favorites on AI and I like his new single "It's Not Over". As a result, I listened to the entire CD on VH-1 and liked it. I went to Walmart and bought the CD this morning and listened to it on the way home and I LOVE IT!
All I can say is WOW!!!!! Chris has one of the best recording voices I have ever heard!!! He is fantastic! I have also noticed that he has written or co-written a lot of the songs on the album as well. My favorite songs are "It's Not Over", "Used To", "Crash", "Breakdown", "There and Back Again", and my all time favorite is "Home" (especially the acoustic version on the Walmart additional tracks CD). I predict that the song "Home" will make Chris a MEGASTAR if it is released as a single. He is the sole writer of the song and it is extremely moving.
I think that everyone should buy this CD even if you were not a Chris fan on the show. It is really that FANTASTIC!
Again WOW!!
DAUGHTRY Has Heart! November 21, 2006 11 out of 16 found this review helpful
I grew up listening to awesome music of the sixites and haven't been this excited about an album since The Beatles. Chris Daughtry sings with his heart and I love his music - his voice - his charisma. I think he's going to have mega success.
As a result of Chris Daughtry's success after American Idol I believe a lot of one star reviews will reflect the competitive nature of fans of the other contestants. But the truth is the truth. This man can sing and perform. As a 50 something listener, I look forward to many more Daughtry albums and can't wait to see what his video looks like.
