5 out of 5 stars The Dance   June 1, 2002

: When the original band broke up with departure of Lindsey in 1987 and Stevie in 1993 it was clear that the band's days were numbered with two key factors in their successes gone. The last Mac Album, 1995's "Time" crashed and burned with no one noticing so when the band announced plans for a reunion concert special (Marking the 20th anniversary of their groundbreaking album "Rumours") and plans for a live album / tour to follow it was speculated that a full fledged reunion was in store. That hasn't exactly happened. (Christine has chosen not to participate in a new album) This live album begins with a great version of their hit "The Chain" which still sounds good even after 20 years. Then it is one to hits ranging from "Dreams", "Everywhere" (A vast improvement on the original version) Big Love (Another improvement over the original) and "Say You Love Me". Along the way the band treats us to some great new material ranging form Lindsey's Rock and Roll sounding "My Little Demon" and a great new song from Stevie called "Sweet Girl". The Usc Marching band who recorded "Tusk" the title track from the 1979 album returns to assist in performing that song as well as a rousing new version of "Don't Stop" which ironically was used as Bill Clintons Campaign Song. The standout on the album is the crowd pleasing hit that never made it on the classic "Rumours" album, a love song called "Silver Springs", which brought the house down at the taping and is still my all time favourite Mac Track. A great album that proves their 70's success was very richly deserved.

4 out of 5 stars Listen for Christine McVie and Lindsey Buckingham.   December 13, 1999

Fleetwood Mac's most accomplished work had an aggressiveness to it that, quite frankly, the mostly fiftysomething band members didn't have the energy to muster anymore on the reunion. "Rhiannon" had those stunning high harmonies; "Go Your Own Way" had a stinging lead vocal that predicted Smashing Pumpkins; "The Chain" was tough and lyrically uncompromising.

The songwriting still stands proud -- and the two aforementioned band members shine. Lindsey Buckingham's guitar work has never sounded better though his voice can't handle the high registers anymore, and McVie -- because her songs have always been the most pop-conscious and less tumultous -- can still handle her numbers with conviction. Stevie Nicks, unfortunately, simply can't croon and growl the way she used to, and the general energy level isn't all that high on this record. Some of the re-arrangements are interesting, though -- "Silver Springs" sounds great, and the piano intro to "Rhiannon" breathes new life into the song. The standout track is the opening track, "The Chain" (also the title of Fleetwood Mac's boxed set, released earlier in the decade), which races and snarls in a live setting, beating the studio version to the ground.

5 out of 5 stars A great CD   September 7, 2005

In 1997, that most excellent of rock bands, Fleetwood Mac got together for a 30th anniversary reunion. This is the product of that reunion. This excellent live concert recording is an excellent purchase - the sound quality is great, and there are many wonderful renditions of their older songs which became favorites, such as Silver Springs. And there are some new ones, including Bleed to Love Her.

This is a great CD, and a great addition to my musical library. I think that my favorite songs on this album are Bleed to Love Her, Say You Love Me and Silver Springs. I love this album and highly recommend it to all fans of great music!

5 out of 5 stars A+ for Stevie Nicks and Fleetwood Mac   June 12, 2000

The amount of talent combined to form Fleetwood Mac is unparalleled. "High Priestess" Stevie Nicks' powerful vocals coupled with her stellar songwriting abilities give the band a strong front. Although she is no doubt the favorite, the talents of Lindsay Buckingham, Christine McVie, John McVie, and the ever energetic Mick Fleetwood must not be overlooked. There doesn't seem to be a bad cut on the whole album. My only complaint is that Gold Dust Woman, and Seven Wonders weren't included, oh well! This album just goes to show that good music never goes out of style......

4 out of 5 stars a welcome return   December 1, 1999

while The Dance may lack some of the energy and chemistry that made up some of the best moments of 1980's "Live", the tracks that are great make it a worthwhile disk. Surprisingly, Stevie Nicks serves up some of her most inspired singing in ages and as always, Lindsey Buckingham's guitar playing makes each song listenable over and over and over. Sadly, Christine McVie, who turned out some of the bands greatest tracks throughout the 1980's, delivers lazy, uninspired singing on The Dance. Still, the Buckingham Nicks "reunion" makes this album a keeper for Fleetwood Mac fans. Highlights: Silver Springs, I'm So Afraid, Landslide, Big Love.
