Cabaret from the Grave... April 29, 2006 2 out of 3 found this review helpful
A delightfully wicked compilation of beautiful vocals and dark themes. Black Tape For a Blue Girl's skinny mix of "Knock 3 Times" is well put together, perhaps a bit more perfect then what appears on Halo Star. The Dresden Dolls open this recording with a witty and humorous song, "Coin-operated Boy." Rozz Williams (RIP) of Christian Death performs a lovely, retrospective song entitled "Flowers." Audra, Katzenjammer Kabaret, and Thou Shalt Not's contributions are also remarkable. A must have for anyone interested in something new, dark, lustful, and mischievous.
A great surprise April 29, 2006 1 out of 2 found this review helpful
I think that this is a really interesting compilation with an affordable price. Why interesting? Because you will find a handful of songs related to this extrange style called 'Dark Cabaret'; there is not a clear definition about it, but I am sure of your intuition...
Think about Ute Lemper or Marlene Dietrich, but now-a-days. Does it sound weird? No, it sounds great! Trust me, try Jill Tracy (as gloomy as charming) or Dresden Dolls... it worths the 'effort'. Other songs, like 'Flowers', are simply classics; perhaps not exactly 'Dark Cabaret', but excellent stuff.

Deliciously Decadent March 25, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I've always loved the cabaret style. This album captures the decadence, the bite, and the morbid romance of pre-World War II cabaret in a marvelous way. Some tracks, of course, are better than others. Jill Tracy's "Let's Spend an Evil Night Together" stands out as representative of the album's concept. Luscious, seductive vocals, taunting lyrics, and a fascination with the darker side of entertainment, all combine to serve up a truly delectable confection. Is that a hint of bitter almond in the meringue? I'll be picking up albums by several of these artists in the near future.
I'll prove you my love like I was Judas April 28, 2006 Projekt delivers another compilation CD, but this time with a twist. What I like most about this collection of songs is the style in which they are delivered... cabaret. I particularly like the Revue Noir and Black Tape For A Blue Girl tracks, and I also find it very nice to see a Rozz Williams track on this CD, which came as quite a surprise. Overall, I think that this is a fairly good CD, especially if you are looking for something different to listen to. My only complaint is that I wish that it had more tracks. But for only six bucks, you can't beat the price for 45 minutes worth of music. They say you get what you pay for, but in this case Projekt delivers way more than expected. Bottom line: If you like the Dresden Dolls, you will like this compilation. Buy it now!
Not Your Ordinary Music Cd! November 23, 2006 0 out of 1 found this review helpful
If you want to experience something different - this is it! It's cabaret music with a slightly modern twist. You don't have to like dark, gothic music to appreciate this cd. I enjoyed all the songs except for track 9. Get it! Try something different! At this price, what have you got to lose?
