5 out of 5 stars Hot Stuff Either Way You Slice It!   March 14, 2007

The Pogues "If I Should Fall From Grace with God" is a masterpiece of its kind. Can not go wrong with this one. I feel a little sad that this band could not stand the test of time but I do realize that true genius is unpredictable at best and you can tell that the lead vocals is one of the type of genius that anything can happen. This is a tight band with that special flavor that comes from their side of he world. No weakness here, when these guides get going all hell breaks loose and I am looking to get drunk and buy a pack of Marlboro Reds and maybe take away the filters, that's how rowdy the s..t gets. A true pleasure to own. Ownership satisfaction do not get any better than this, can get to be the same but not better. This album stays in my world till I kick, and everytime I throw a party it definitely enters the rotation but right around the time when the party has heated up. This is no lukewarm affair and should not be considered as such. Get the Babes happy and drunk, get the dudes saturated with some high quality tap beer or whatever, really, and let loose the whole album. Stick with friends when playing the Pogues at least this way the fighting that might ensue will be in good cheer and later friendly hugs! 5 stars for the Pogues "If I Should Fall From Grace With God" What a Title, What a Record! Stay down with your bad selves, Pogues!!! Go Go Go!

4 out of 5 stars One of their best   December 20, 2007

Wonderful remastering job by Rhino.
The bonus cuts are all worthy, no fillers here !
All the reissues have lyrics included, except for the bonus cuts.

If you don't know the Pogues, they sound like a traditional Irish band, but with a rock n roll beat & streetwise attitude. The songs are mostly dark, about life, death, getting drunk and everything in between.
What a band! Whether a slow & moody ballad or a raving party tune, the Pogues are premier musicians. This cd & Hell's Ditch are my faves, but
they are all worth getting.

I started with "Red Roses For Me" as my first Pogues album. Mistake (which is not to say it's a bad album). I would say start with this one or "Rum, Sodomy & The Lash." At any rate, the Pogues are definitely worth hearing, and this album is definitely one you should have if you dig them.

5 out of 5 stars One of the best records of legendary Irish punk band   March 10, 2008
I love this album by The Pogues. It includes their most famous song - Fairytale of New York, sung in duet with the late Kirsty McColl, but there many other great songs, like If I should Fall from Grace with God, Fiesta, The Broad Majestic Shannon, Streets of Sorrow/Birmingham Six, South Australia. Obviously, if you want to have just one album of The Pogues, its greatest hits it's probably the one to buy, but this comes right next to it.

4 out of 5 stars The Pogues' masterpiece   April 27, 2008
This contains two of my all-time favorite songs, hand-down, ANY genre (and I love all genres of music, from country to bluegrass to hard rock to rap to indy rock to gospel to...you get the picture...)

TITLE TRACK (If I Should Fall from Grace with God)...the joy in this song makes me feel glad to be alive. I love to blast this sucker when I'm driving fast, and sing along, and imagine myself in an Irish pub not giving a damn what anyone thinks, screaming the song along with Shane at the top of my lungs...what a simple, but brilliant song...

FAIRYTALE OF NEW YORK One of the most gorgeous, honest, funny, brutal, moving songs EVER written, in my humble opinion...

Those two songs alone would make this CD (and their greatest hits CD) well worth getting. The fact that there are many other good songs on here is a bonus.

Pogue Mahone!
