Not quite five stars...but... July 22, 2007 5 out of 8 found this review helpful
Well this isn't a super performance from the Dead, but it has it's moments. It's incredible quality sound, and Bob Weir's playing in high in the mix, which I appreciate in the 71-74 years.Deadheads will enjoy his lead work while Jerry plays rhythm.
Smokestack Lightnin and Easy Wind are great, and this from a guy who usually skips those long Pig raps.
I've always enjoyed 1971 "bar band" dead with its one drummer, and country and blues sound, as well as some of it's best material fresh, and it's young Jerry Garcia voice. If you liked "Ladies and Gentlemen", you're sure to like this one. The performances aren't as legendary, not quite as many awesome tunes, but it sounds better and it's a rockin good time.
The Pig Pen Blues tracks sound great on this June 28, 2007 3 out of 4 found this review helpful
I usually not a big Pg Pen fan but I have to say It Hurts Me Too, Smokestack Lightning and Easy Wind are fantastic. Maybe the best version of Easy Wind I have ever heard. There is also a great version of the Other One as well. Several songs had their debut on this tour. Some sound better than others but if you are interested in hearing the origins of these tunes its worth a listen. The sound and remix on this is incredible. While not a lot of jamming (a five minute version of Playing In The Band????) its nice to hear a stripped down bluesy Dead.
Classic Dead with Pigpen. July 12, 2007 3 out of 4 found this review helpful
Killer show, this is the best Grateful Dead to come out of the vault in a while. Very sweet Smokestack Lighting. This is a must for all Deadheads. Philip in SC, living free. 7/12/07

This is a very nice release, with good ones, and Pigpen, despite all, comes out strong from this one concert. All in all, if you want precise sound and timing, go search for Rush, Yes or King Crimson; if you want colour, fun & amazing musical adventures, go.. with the dead and this one seems worth the money, to me.
Bring Out Your Dead July 6, 2007 2 out of 8 found this review helpful
Bring out your Dead! Bring out your Dead! Well whaddya' know - finally, From the Vault III was released. I'm usually biased to these folks since I have always been a "grateful fan" and with all that time waiting for it - I find it somewhat of a letdown, The best part was "That's it for the Other One" - and other than that, it was not what I was hoping to expect. However, I have to give much credit to Bill K - his drumming did more than make up for the loss of Mickey H during those days.
Mediocracy reigns for this one - can't win them all!
